Tributes pour in for songbird who passed away six days after celebrating birthday

Acclaimed Jamaican singer, Karen Smith has died.

Reports are that the singer passed away approximately 3:30 am on Saturday at the Baywest Hospital in Montego Bay, St James.

Sources report that the singer was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer.

Reports are that she passed away six days after celebrating her birthday.

News of the death of Smith who was a former president of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians and Affiliates Union (JFMAU), has left scores of Jamaicans in shock.

"Fly high amazing songbird Karen Smith...you beautiful soul," said Yendi Philips, who was the winner of the Miss Jamaica World 2007 beauty pageant, as well as the Miss Jamaica Universe 2010 pageant.

Similar sentiments were shared by other fans and friends such as singer, Nadine Sutherland.

"She was real, sweet, almost angelic sometimes. A light beam in the world. I will treasure the times we shared a stage," said Sutherland.
