"Whitey" Bulger's girlfriend, Catherine Greig, is already serving an eight-year sentence for helping him avoid authorities
A judge ordered Greig to divulge information on those who also helped harbor him
The former girlfriend of convicted mobster James “Whitey” Bulger will likely plead guilty to contempt charges as part of a plea deal with federal authorities, according to federal court documents filed Tuesday.
Catherine Greig, who is already in prison serving a sentence for helping Bulger avoid police, is accused of failing to provide information on others who might have helped Bulger while he avoided authorities for 16 years.
Greig’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment.
In 2014, U.S. District Judge Denise Casper issued an order demanding that Greig provide details about anyone who helped Bulger hide from 1995 to 2011.
During that time, Bulger and Greig lived as Charlie and Carol Gasko in a seaside apartment in Santa Monica, California. In his letters to author Michael Esslinger, Bulger described that time as “a 16-year honeymoon.”
After they were arrested in June 2011, Greig pleaded not guilty to harboring and concealing Bulger.
The following year, Greig pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to harbor a fugitive and two counts of identity theft. She was sentenced in June 2012 to eight years in federal prison, a term an appeals court upheld in May 2013.
