Quintrell Martin was sentenced to 12 years in prison

Quintrell D. Martin will spend 12 years in prison for killing his neighbor, Kedrick Jones, over a $50 debt.

“Kedrick (Jones) sold Quintrell (Martin) this pistol for $50, but Quintrell (Martin) didn’t pay for all of it,” said Scott Green, a Montgomery County Deputy District Attorney who prosecuted the case.

Jones was killed with the gun he sold Martin, Green said.

The killing occurred in July, 2014, on Colfax Drive in Montgomery.

Martin, 20, was originally charged with murder, but later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced Jan. 5 at Montgomery County Circuit Court by judge William Shashy.

“I leave sentencing up to the judge. He had the factors to consider,” Green said. “I respect whatever factors he had to consider, but I think 12 years is disproportionate to the crime.”

Chris East, a Montgomery County Public Defender who represented Martin, could not be reached for a comment.
