Top Tips for Self-Care

In times of uncertainty, it’s easy to push our health and wellbeing down our list of priorities. However, it’s just as important to make time for our mental health as it is our physical health to keep us happy, healthy and able to support others.

From eating and sleeping well, to daily exercise, stress management and self-care, here we share our top tips on helping to make time for you.

Prioritise You

As the hustle and bustle from everyday life comes to a halt and we find a new pace of life, why not take this time to prioritise you? Whether you enjoy a long hot soak, reading a book, or sitting down to watch your favourite soap, it’s important to set time aside for ‘me time’ each week. Be kind to yourself. Relaxation is so important so take time to unplug and clear your mind, reducing stress levels for a happier you.

Why not set up a home spa and take time to relax with your favourite products? Treat yourself to a facial to rejuvenate your complexion, exfoliate and hydrate your skin with your favourite body scrub and brighten your nails with a colourful varnish.

Calm Mind

We may find ourselves starting to feel anxious as we watch the news unfold, however, as the world around us starts to find a new ‘normal’ it’s important to try and take steps to help you to stay calm. This is where mindfulness comes into play. Mindfulness is a form of meditation which focuses around being present in the moment and really enjoying your experiences. The practice brings along many benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep quality and also helping to improve your general health. There are some great free apps available to help with mindfulness so why not take the first step and try it today?

A Dose of Vitamin D

Whether it’s breakfast alfresco or a lunchtime walk, it’s incredible what some fresh air and (hopefully some) sunshine can do for both our mental and physical health. In times like these, it’s easy to stay home and laze on the sofa, but it’s important to stay active and keep our bodies moving.

Not able to head outside? Why not try a home workout to keep your body moving? We can find a number of free exercise videos online, with no equipment needed. So whether you’re a beginner or a regular gym-goer, there’s something for everyone. Let’s get those endorphins going to help lift your mood and stay positive.

The Power of Sleep

Life is so much easier when we’ve slept well and feel rested, so try to aim for eight hours sleep each night. To help remind your body that it is time to relax and unwind, why not start a bedtime routine? Power down one hour before by putting down your phones and turning off the TV, write down anything that’s worrying you and make a note of any tasks that need to be completed the next day so they’re off your mind. Maybe enjoy a soak, start your evening skincare regime or read a chapter of your favourite book to help you to truly relax before heading to bed. Say goodbye to counting sheep!
