Carolyn StaudtVisualization Technologies Build Science Mental Models for Young Elementary Students

Carolyn Staudt, Nathan Kimball

2:30-3:30 PM, Poster Area 1, Exhibit Hall Booth 965

Project Sensing Science has developed visualization tools using sensors, molecular models, and story-based apps to immerse young students in the particulate view of matter and the kinetic theory of heat. Children have vast experience with temperature and heat, but this science is all but ignored in early elementary education because of its abstract and invisible nature. Visualization technologies can make the underlying science accessible, providing young students scientifically accurate mental models.
