The Martin Expo Town Center would put a big new residential/office/retail complex a block away from the Expo Line extension's Expo/Bundy station, on, somewhat poetically, the site of a Cadillac/GMC dealership. Plans first surfaced years ago, but now we're finally seeing what it might look like, and it's pretty dramatic. Urbanize LA says that the complex would replace the dealership with more than 500 residential units (either apartments for rent or condos), a 10-story tower with office and retail space, well over a thousand parking spaces, and a big pedestrian paseo to boot.
The details come courtesy of the project's recently released final environmental impact report, which outlines how the cluster of low- and mid-rise buildings, designed by Gensler, will be filled out. The northern side of the nearly five-acre property at Bundy and Olympic would see the rise of a seven-story mixed-user with 516 condos or apartments over 81,000 square feet of combined retail and restaurant space, plus a grocery store. The south side of the property would see a new 10-story office tower with almost 192,000 square feet for offices upstairs and 26,500 square feet of office and retail space at street level.
The new Martin Expo Town Center would also have a 10,000-square-foot plaza that would be open and accessible to the public and include landscaping, water features, and outdoor dining; it's also set to get three levels of underground parking with either 1,451 or 1,876 parking spots. (The parking requirements are different for apartments and condos, so the decision on the kind of residential here will ultimately impact how many parking spaces there are.)
Currently, the northern part of this land holds an auto service center and the southern part holds the Cadillac showroom. (The Martin family has had a dealership here for more than 40 years and is developing the project.) Both buildings would be demolished.
With big plans for a huge mixed-use complex at Jefferson and La Cienega and a retail/hotel/office/residential complex in the works for the parking lot next to the Expo Line's existing terminus at the Culver City station, the Martin Expo Town Center will find itself with a lot of Expo-adjacent company.
