City help-desk worker won’t be fired for talking like a robot

A city Health Department employee who was suspended twice for baffling callers by answering the phone in a robotic voice won’t be fired, officials said Friday.

The bigwigs said they are giving one more break to Ronald Dillon, 67, a 40-year employee who was suspended for 20 days in 2014 for acting like a slow-speaking robot when answering calls at an IT help desk.

A year later, he was charged with doing it again.

The Health Department suggested that he be fired. But after an administrative trial, a judge recommended a 30-day suspension.

Health officials didn’t have to accept the recommendation, but they did — making it clear this was Dillon’s final chance.

He had argued the robot voice was his way of counteracting a thick Brooklyn accent.
