Australia's darling Margot Robbie revealed she was once told her accent was too strong - even though she was playing an Australian character at the time.

Hollywood’s sweetheart Margot Robbie admitted she was once told she sounded too Australian. Talking to news.com.au to promote her latest movie, Peter Rabbit, the Queenslander revealed that her Neighbours bosses hired a dialect coach to fix her ‘bogan’ accent.

“When I was on Neighbours they hired a dialect coach to make me sound less Australian even though I was still playing an Australian character,” she said. Margot starred as schoolgirl Donna Freedman on Australian television series Neighbours from 2008 to 2011. The star moved to Melbourne at 17 to join the show, eventually leaving to pursue bigger things in Hollywood.

Initially, however, Margot thought she wasn’t even in the running for the Neighbours role, believing her audition was terrible. “I went to Canada to go snowboarding with my boyfriend. I didn’t give it a moment’s thought. I thought I’d done a really bad audition, so I just walked out and thought, ‘Oh well’”, she said. “But you know, you get one phone call and it changes your life. We’d been in Canada for two days and I got that call and I sort of said, ‘Bye, I guess I’m leaving for home’.”
