The latest 247Sports ranking of 2019 prospects has an Alabama player at the top.

Defensive end Antonio Alfano, who signed in December, is now the No. 1 recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports evaluations. He’s No. 5 in the composite that combines all the different recruiting rankings into one.

Alfano jumped eight spots in the 247Sports ranking, which will serve as the final one of the 2019 cycle. His big performance in the All-American Bowl earlier this month in San Antonio pushed him to the top of the ranking.

As a senior at Colonia (N.J.) High School, Alfano made 76 tackles. Of those, 28 were for a loss including 10 sacks.

After Alfano, the next-best Alabama signee is running back Trey Sanders. The IMG Academy product slipped five spots to No. 14. Cornerback Jeffery Carter is No. 30, followed by offensive tackle Evan Neal at No. 32 and safety Jordan Battle at No. 49.

The Tide is still pursuing No. 39 Ishmael Sopsher and No. 43 Henry To’oto’o entering the second signing day in February.

The top recruit in 247Sports rankings to sign with Alabama was Cyrus Kouandjio in 2011. He was the No. 2 prospect in that class. Four others were No. 3 including Eyabi Anoma (2018), Alex Leatherwood (2017), Cam Robinson (2014) and Landon Collins (2012).
