China’s DMG has teamed up with rights owner Studiocanal to produce a 3D version of James Cameron’s “Terminator 2.”

The pair plan to release the converted film at an unspecified date 2016. They want the release to kick off in China, where “T2” has never been given a theatrical release.

China has a special import quota for 3D and IMAX films.

“Next year marks the 25th anniversary of ‘Terminator 2’ and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version,” said Cameron in a statement.

Cameron spent some $18 million on the 3D conversion of his hit “Titanic.” The stereoscopic rerelease earned $343 million in 2012, including over $140 million in China.
