THE POPULAR St. David’s Hospice Dragon Boat challenge will be returning to Llanberis later this year.

The colourful charity event, which is being organised in conjunction with Dragon Boat events, is in its sixth year and now open for team bookings ahead of the event on June 30.

Last year, the total sum raised reached over £25,000 for the local charity and saw 20 teams take part.

Many participants dressed in colourful fancy costumes including Vikings outfits, ‘Cat in the Hat’ characters and donned wigs and tutus.

The winning team in 2017 was the ‘Dream of Dan’s Dragons’.

Hospice Event Co-ordinator, Daisy Magill said: “It is a fantastic day out for the whole family.

"The event offers you the chance to compete in one of Britain’s most unique water sport activities, where the emphasis throughout the day is on the challenge, team building, fundraising and of course…fun.

"Everything is supplied on the day so all you need to do is bring your team and supporters to cheer you on!”

Teams consist of a maximum of 20 members. In the boat there are 16 paddling and one banging the drum at any one time. All competitors must be over 12.

Each team of 20 will be asked to give a £250 entry fee to secure their place and will be asked to raise a minimum of £50 per person in sponsorship which equates to a £1,000 per team.

Through the money raised at the Dragon Boat event, St David’s Hospice can continue to expand their hospice services and give their patients and families the best quality of life possible.
