Business Practice Brown-bag: Are You Exposed? Safe Computing Tactics to Keep Data Secure

January 12, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Recent technology security analysis by IBM indicated that “over 95 percent of all [security] incidents investigated recognize ‘human error’ as a contributing factor.”

It’s easy for computer users to assume that sensitive data is safely concealed behind firewalls, spam filtering, anti-virus, passwords, physical access controls, intrusion detection software, and other layers of security, but the truth is that there are armies of hackers trying desperately to trick smart people into making a foolish mistake. And they often succeed.

The threats are numerous; and for even a small business the costs associated with a security breach can be astronomical.

This presentation is intended to empower users to identify threats and exercise appropriate caution. The discussion focuses on four main areas:

  • Safe Computing and Internet Browsing Security
  • Email Security
  • Identifying Scams
  • Password Management Tips and Tricks

The presentation is intended for a non-technical audience. The discussion will be informative, entertaining and conversational. It will include real-world examples and a review of best practices. There will be a question and answer period, so be sure to bring your “safe computing” concerns. Feel free to bring your lunch.
