Indigenous Women's Leadership Series: The Next Generations

On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2023, we gathered to honour and celebrate Indigenous women who are leading and managing conservation/land relationship initiatives with and for future generations.

During last year’s International Women’s Day webinar, The Trailblazers of Conservation, The Honourable Ethel Blondin-Andrew reminded us of the importance of youth and the next generations: “It's just magic to see young people change when they’re on the land. It hits on another issue – healing on the land – for me. That is such an integral part of what we’re supposed to be doing.”

In this session, we heard from young Indigenous women who are leading efforts to heal relationships with the lands and waters by revitalizing languages, knowledges, and teachings. These young women are lending their voices, energy, and strength for social and environmental justice to ensure there is a bright future for the generations to come.

This dialogue was moderatored by Marilyn Baptiste (Xeni Gwet'in First Nation), with guest speakers: Doreen William (Xeni Gwet'in First Nation), Chuutsqa / Layla Rorick (Hesquiaht First Nation), Jillian Smith (Beausoleil First Nation), Shauna Yeomans-Lindstrom (Taku River Tlingit First Nation), and Briana Greer (Métis Nation British Columbia).
