Health Cooperatives during covid-19 and in times of crises

An inspiring online conversation about how health cooperatives handled the covid-19 crisis took place on 17 June hosted by IHCO and ICA. Did you miss it? Ricardo Antonio Gonsales, new Board member

On 23 June, the IHCO Board elected Dr Ricardo Antonio Gonsales as a new Board member on behalf of Unimed, the Brazilian member organisation. Dr Gonsales is member of the Unimed's Audit Committee and Director of Finances at the Federação das Unimeds do Estado de Mato Grosso.
He is medical doctor trained at the Faculdade de Medicina de Marília and MBA specialised in cooperatives at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas.

Interview with Coomeva President

Coomeva President Alfredo Arana explained how his organisation was able to adapt to the situation caused by the covid-19 and the initiatives they launched to provide relief to the community.
He also talked about the potential of the cooperatives, «in these challenging times when everything is under question, the cooperative model offers a great alternative to the business world» he said.

Healthy communities: How coops can expand care

Half of the world’s population goes without basic, essential health services and amid the covid19 pandemic, it is important to realise that the fight to meet the world’s health demands is a constant struggle.
Europe and North America face a battle to continue to supply healthcare to an ageing population while developing nations attempt to expand healthcare coverage. Democratic organisations are proving to be part of the solution to both of these challenges.

ICA congress rescheduled

International Cooperative Alliance announced that the 33rd World Cooperative Congress, postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic, will be held from 1-3 March 2021 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The cooperative movement will discuss in Seoul the relevance of the cooperative identity, its principles and values, in the post-pandemic scenario. The event will feature debates about the contributions of cooperatives to the global economic, social and environmental reconstruction.
