2015 Living Planet @ Work Award winners announced

For WWF’s Living Planet @ Work (LP@W) program, 2015 was a year of celebration, innovation, and excitement. Across the country, LP@W champions found ways to educate, engage, and empower their colleagues to take environmental action and raise funds for WWF.
On November 26th at our Annual Public Meeting, WWF was proud to recognize some of our top champions – the cream of the crop – who have gone the extra mile to create change in their companies while also supporting the important conservation work of WWF.

Champions of the Year – Sandra Piroteala and Alison Clubb, Bullfrog Power

As members of Bullfrog’s sustainability committee, Sandra and Alison contributed to key office-wide footprint reduction initiatives by implementing an improved waste management system, and by working with one of their partners (Waste Not Worm Farm) to turn the office’s food waste into rich fertilizer – which employees can use in their very own gardens! In addition, they championed the creative environmental employee engagement activities including a sustainability cinema series, participation in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, and WWF’s Spring Things campaign, raising more than $ 5,600 for WWF’s conservation work in the Arctic, freshwater and oceans.

Green Team of the Year – Lindt & Sprungli (Canada), Inc.

This year, Lindt’s green committee championed sustainability by creating an innovative campaign in their Toronto Office, where employees were tasked to complete five challenges to reduce office footprint and support WWF’s conservation work. The results of the challenge were overwhelmingly positive, with an employee participation rate of over 50%. Furthermore, the team’s effort in promoting WWF’s CN Tower climb, paired with the strong support from CEO Rudi Blatter, helped the team raise over $20,000 for WWF.

Company of the Year – Bentall Kennedy

For the second year in a row, Bentall Kennedy has proven that sustainability is truly integrated within all aspects of the organization. Through their nation-wide ForeverGreen program, Bentall Kennedy’s Property Management Teams and Blue Teams (their version of green teams) have engaged both tenants and employees to develop impactful footprint reduction initiatives, including the facilitation of lighting retrofits across Ontario. This initiative alone has allowed them to save an estimated 735,000 kWh each year. Taking it a step further, Bentall Kennedy’s Etobicoke office is piloting BOMA’s Sustainable Workplace Certification Program, which provides third-party certification to individual offices for their sustainability efforts.

Fundraiser of the Year – Bentall Kennedy

In addition to being the recipient of the 2015 Company of the Year Award, Bentall Kennedy was the top fundraiser for Living Planet @ Work’s Spring Things campaign. Through creative employee competitions, exciting environmental events, and top-level support from Executive VP Stu Wanlin, Bentall Kennedy was able to rally employees to dive into the frigid Lake Ontario and tackle the CN Tower’s 1,776 steps, all in support of conservation. In total, Bentall Kennedy raised over $30,000 for WWF’s work.
