Mississippi Waffle House employee shot dead after telling customer not to smoke

An employee of a Biloxi, Mississippi, Waffle House was reportedly killed by a customer early Friday following a dispute over his smoking in the eatery.

A Biloxi, Mississippi, Waffle House became a crime scene early Friday morning when a customer reportedly shot and killed an employee.

Police said Johnny Max Mount, 45, got into an argument with the worker after she told him he had to put out a cigarette he was smoking in the restaurant, WMC Action News 5 reported.

Angered by the exchange, he allegedly went to his vehicle and retrieved a 9-mm pistol, which he used to shoot the employee once in the head, killing her, according to the Biloxi Sun Herald.

Mount was arrested shortly after the incident, which took place at about 1 a.m. Friday, and is being held on $2 million in the Harrison County jail, the Sun Herald reported. He faces a first-degree murder charge.

The employee, a 52-year-old woman whose name has not been released by authorities, was rushed Merit Health Biloxi after the shooting but could not be saved, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said, according to the local news station WLOX.
