Processed foods, foray into finance spur Indian agricultural giant

JALGAON, India -- At first glance, it is difficult to believe that Jain Irrigation Systems' 1,000-hectare farming and manufacturing site in a little-known city in west-central India is the global headquarters of a multinational corporation that employs more than 10,000 people. But a closer look reveals a place buzzing with activity. In fact, things could not be busier for India's leading seller of drip-irrigation products and dehydrated foods.

Technicians check drip levels in a Jain Irrigation pipe in Jalgaon.

On this particular day, farmers from the state of Gujarat are on the hunt for new equipment that could help them save water and fertilizer. Jain Irrigation's best-selling products are its irrigation systems that drip water directly onto plant roots, enhancing farming efficiency.
