Thanksgiving Tradition: Football with Family

By Preston Derrick

Red Raider fans are excited to add tomorrow’s Texas Tech game against the University of Texas to their football watching schedules.

The Thanksgiving game, at 6 p.m. in Austin, is only the second time Tech has played on Turkey Day. The Raiders will be seeking their 7th win of the season, as well as their first victory in Austin since 1997 under then-head coach Spike Dykes.

Daniel Galvan, a business major from Houston, said that since Tech has started playing on Thanksgiving, his tradition hasn’t changed because his family always watches football after the big meal.

“Even if they played in Lubbock, I would still go home for the week of the game, but I’d still watch it on TV,” Galvan said.

Chris Trimble, a business management major from Tomball, Texas, said he has also made it a habit to watch football on Thanksgiving.

“Throughout the whole day, on a big screen, we always do,” Trimble said.

Even though football may take center stage on television this Thursday, Galvan said the holiday is not just about the pigskin.

“Probably not the most important,” Galvan said. “For me, family is.”
