Marc Montayne offers professional resume review through the group.  Key here is you need to have the job description for a job you are applying for.  See the OCN Members Services Page on the website.

Need a Resume?

Start with NEWorks Resume Builder - Another source to at least begin building a resume, if you do not have one, is the NEWorks website. This is for anyone that  is looking for work, even if you are not collecting unemployment benefits. Once you login, look for the Resume Builder under the QUICK MENU. If you are not registered, you will need to do so. It is free and the site is a good resource in your job hunt. This is just a starting point.

Some basic resume elements:

  1. A Summary of Accomplishments - You want to tell the hiring authority how you can help their business succeed. Do not use an Objective, that is more about what you want and they don't care what you want.
  2. LinkedIn Profile URL - This needs to be shortened and customized.  Part of Job Hunt Branding 101 and placed with your contact info.
  3. Job Titles in Bold, company names light face.
  4. Skip the duties and responsibilities list. The hiring authorities know this from your job title, unless it is so esoteric you need to included some of these. Best to tell them how you did this job better than anyone else. Better, Faster, Cheaper, Made Money, Saved Money.
  5. Experience listed by years only.  Helps hide gaps and try not to go back more than 10 years.  You can list other relevant experience as bullet points.
