TRENTON -- Donald Trump's campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination has been littered with insults and controversial comments.

And last week saw a string of them from the billionaire businessman and former Atlantic City casino mogul: suggestions about possibly closing mosques, confusion over whether he'd support a Muslim database, claims that thousands of people in Jersey City celebrated during 9/11, and a remark that a Black Lives Matter protestor who was beaten at one of his rallies might have deserved it.

Click through the galley above to see the most outrageous comments of his campaign -- and some he made years before it.
