=Penang= Seafood Buffet @ 59Sixty

Although it did not have a good start, but now with a new executive chef and team, 59Sixty is working very hard to earn a name in town with a vast variety of scrumptious foods, and given that they have the best view in town.

This was Gibson first visit after its opening, so he can’t make a “before & after” comment, but the present setup that he found quite interesting, as to how you can decide to prepare the crab or the prawn, when the main dishes already contain crabs and prawns. Among several very enticing choices, Gibson opted for the Spicy Chili Crab and it was very good.

Price:
Weekday Buffet Lunch – RM88nett per pax
Weekend Buffet Brunch – RM98nett per pax
Weekday Buffet High Tea – RM68nett for 2 pax
Daily Buffet Dinner – RM168nett per pax
5 Course Dinner - RM368nett per couple

This is the counter you order your special request crab and prawn, they do have other options like noodles and “fried Ice Cream” that are located somewhere within the restaurant, so a little hunting is required.

The newly appointed Executive Chef Jason Hall from New Zealand is like a savior on a “rescue mission”. He joined 2 months ago but with 25 years of experience in the culinary industry, we can surely expect a vast improvement. Jason told Gibson that although he is an all rounded chef, but he has a passion for fishing and Penang being an island is an asset, as seafood will definitely be the main spotlight of the restaurant.

Now that you know who is in charge of the kitchen, let us see what is in store for us. Gibson went straight to the seafood bar; as the menu of the day is depended solely on the catch of the day. So it is a matter of luck as to what you can get for the day. So keep your fingers crossed.

Our luck for the day as you can see, includes the slipper lobster already in Gibson’s stomach before the shot.

Sauces are equally important especially to the locals, and you will not be disappointed to see a good variety of choices. Gibson recommends the Sambal, although it may look a bit watery, but the taste has all the elements of a good Sambal.

More Sauces to go.

Appetizer is looking good here.

Seafood appetizer.

They offer a glorious buffet spread that serves both local and international cuisines, including Chinese, Nyonya, Western, Middle Eastern, Japanese and Seafood. But Gibson will only show some of the dishes, since there are around 100 or more dishes that he can’t fit in all in one post, because he needs to reserve some space for the view as well. Here are some of their Salads.

Japanese Sushi with fusion touch.

Deep fried food and Japanese Tempura.

This is a pork-free restaurant, but their Chicken Char Siew surprised us with the right texture and taste, and the rest of the Chinese Roasted dishes are of normal standards.

Here are some of the main dishes.

Gibson liked their selection of desserts, with the variety ranging from east to west. Their bakery is known to be one of the best in town. Just remember to reserve some space in your stomach for the sweet extravaganza.

A buffet is not complete without the Marshmallow in chocolate dip. At least by Gibson’s standards, it is a must.

Now you can also order the popular fried ice cream here up in the sky, imagine that you have the cold and sweet ice cream melting in your mouth while enjoying the spectacular view from the highest building in Penang, and that should be one of the best moments of the day.

59Sixty is located on level 59 & 60 of Komtar tower, where the restaurant occupying level 59 has a seating capacity of 360, which was designed along Mediterranean themes that provide 360° panoramic view of the city.

This is main area for the buffet.

This is the special spot for High tea.

Romantic couple seat for Set menu.

The group seating with a great view.

If you are early, you get to see the beautiful sunset, and this is how the sunrays shine into the restaurant.

A bird’s eye view of heritage George Town.
