When Ian first proposed the idea of converting a barn into a home, Lindsay was overwhelmed, but excited. "This sounded nearly impossible, yet like the ultimate dream all in one," she told Design*Sponge. "I remember seeing the barn up on the hill for the first time. I immediately got goosebumps and teary eyed. I knew it was for us and I knew that we could transform it into our dream home!" Over the next eight months, the couple worked diligently—completing most of the projects themselves with help from friends and family—to overhaul the 4,176 square-foot structure.

To build the new living room, dining room, and eat-in kitchen, the couple gutted just about everything. The beautiful prep area is now full of country favorites like rustic wood, classic white subway tile, white kitchen cabinets, and pretty hardwood floors.

Now the relaxed space is airy, open, and lit with plenty of natural light. "Since we had to decorate around all the existing beams, I choose low-profile midcentury modern pieces mixed in with farmhouse style elements to warm it up a little bit," Lindsay told Design*Sponge.
