Sen. David Lucas Appointed Chairman of the Rural Georgia Study Committee

ATLANTA (June 22, 2017)  | Sen. David Lucas (D – Macon) has been appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle to serve as the chairman of the Senate Rural Georgia Study Committee.

“Rural Georgia legislative issues are sometimes overlooked in favor of other legislation that may affect urban areas,” said Sen. Lucas. “Issues such as access to healthcare, internet services and quality education are important to consider with special attention to the unique challenges of rural Georgia. I look forward to working together to ensure their needs are considered, voices are heard and ideas are vetted.”

“These study committees are invaluable resources for the legislature as we seek to build a stronger, more economically productive state – in which all Georgians are rewarded for their hard work,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “Our chairmen and committee members will thoroughly evaluate these issues to determine how the state of Georgia can maximize our potential. I am confident Sen. Lucas will bring forward new ideas to build a better Georgia as we prepare for our next legislative session and beyond.”

The Senate Rural Georgia Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 392 during the 2017 legislative session. The committee shall be comprised of seven members of the Senate. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2017.
