For Shania

Donation protected
My lovely and very beautiful niece, Shania Anne Singer, collapsed after crossing the finish line at the 2015 Red Mountain Half Marathon race on October 31st at approximately 9:15 a.m. She arrived at Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center in an ambulance at approximately 9:30 a.m. At 12:37 p.m. she was pronounced dead by her medical doctor and team of nurses who tried relentlessly to revive her. According to the head nurse, Shania regained her pulse four times but was unable to hold a steady pulse before relapsing back into shock and seizure. From the time she collapsed to the time she was pronounced dead, Shania received constant CPR and several shocks to the body. Unfortunately, her little frame of 110 lbs. could not withstand all the traumatic stress it endured during those three hours of constant disbelief and heartbreak.

Shania was a 15 year old sophomore at Arcadia High School who leaves behind her two sisters and best friends, Ronshawnda Singer and Kisha Pinto, and her mother Carmen Pinto.

Shania was an A.P. Honor student who held a GPA higher than a 3.5. Although a full-blooded Navajo born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona (Coyote Pass born for Towering House), she was fluent in Spanish and held herself to a higher standard of learning, self-discipline, modesty and knew, in her heart, that one day she would become Dr. Shania Anne Singer. She was a die-hard ASU fan who could run a mile in less than six minutes. She completed her first and last half-marathon on October 31, 2015.

A Chinese fortune tucked between her iPhone case and phone reads: "Time, once lost, can never be regained."

Shania was a great and awesome human being complete with proper manners, a grateful and optimistic attitude, and I, along with her friends and family, had the opportunity and great pleasure to know her during her 15 years of life.

This account has been setup so that her fellow runners, friends, and family, near and far, can donate to help alleviate the expenses of her funeral.

A HUGE thank you to Caroline, Wayne, and Felicia Sekaquaptewa for aiding my niece after she collapsed at the finish line; taking the time to drive to the hospital to ask permission to set up the "For Shania" group page; providing the necessary support to her fellow runners; collecting donations on behalf of her family. Thank you to all the runners who ran with her, encouraged her, and helped her along the way.
