Tuesday, November 24, 2015, 12:14 PM - Wet roads and plunging temperatures resulted in dangerous driving conditions across the Greater Toronto Area Tuesday morning.

Toronto police reported numerous collisions due to the ice formation on several roads and bridges, which prompted officials to issue a Public Safety Alert on Twitter.

"Wet roads and cold air have caused some roads and bridges to form ice," Toronto Police tweeted. "Numerous collisions. Drive with caution."

A seven-car pileup was reported in the area of Kingston Road and Highway 401 around 6 am. Eight vehicles were also involved in a collision near Ellesmere Avenue and Morningside Avenue with an iced over bridge reported. Another icy bridge at St. Clair Avenue and Avoca Avenue lead to the closure of the bridge after two cars spun out and hit the guard rail.

Scattered flurries are expected to diminish across the GTA, but may continue eastward toward Ottawa/Montreal by mid-day. No real accumulation is expected.</p><p>The special weather statement remained in place for areas including Barrie, Orillia and Parry Sound Tuesday morning, warning of heavy flurries with brief low visibilities at times. That statement was dropped by 12pm.

High pressure will dominate the region over the next couple of days, allowing temperatures to boost up to well above seasonal by the end of the week.

"The next system to hit by Friday will bring in a moderate amount of rain and much cooler temperatures once again behind the front," says Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm.
