Alabama's path ended short of Oklahoma City this time.
After taking the first game of the Gainesville super regional, the Crimson Tide dropped the next two, ending the season with a 2-1 loss to No. 1 Florida on Saturday. Alabama had been to the last three Women's College World Series.
All the action took place early in the deciding game.
Florida (55-8) scored both of its runs in the first inning while Alabama answered with its run in the top of the second.
But, as has been the pattern most of the season, the Alabama bats weren't much of a factor.
Gator ace Kelly Barnhill (24-3, 0.36 ERA) allowed just two hits while striking out 12 -- including the final out of the game when Rachel Bobo swung through the last pitch.
Florida's two runs came on a quick start. The first two batters reached before Aleshia Ocasio's single brought Amanda Lorenz home. Then, after loading the bases, Alabama starter Alexis Osorio hit Alex Voss with a pitch. That scored what became the deciding run.
Alabama (47-17) got a run back in the second when Rachel Bobo got things started with a two-out triple. A poor Florida throw on Elissa Brown's grounder brought Bob to the plate. All four Tide runs in the series were scored on Florida throwing miscues, though Brown's was ruled a hit.
Those two at-bats produced the only two Alabama hits of the day. The Tide wouldn't get another base runner until Reagan Dykes reached on a wild pitch after striking out to lead off the seventh.
Osorio (23-8) went the whole way for Alabama. The junior ace allowed three hits, struck out eight while walking five and hitting two batters. After throwing 69 pitches in the first two innings, her count ended at 136 in six innings. She finished the season with a 1.21 ERA.
