CBS drops two teasers for Oprah’s interview with Prince Harry & Meghan

oprah harry meghan1

We knew that whenever the teasers for Oprah’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex came out, it would be BIG. But I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this BIG from the word go. The teasers are obviously meant to set the tone and exhibit what kind of scoop Oprah got from Harry and Meghan. And if this is what she’s showing in the teasers… well, the Windsors are going to lose their damn minds. My guess – and it’s worth pointing this out – is that Harry has really saved the bulk of his ire towards the British media. Which, fair enough. We know what the British media has done, we know how bad they are. When Harry spoke to James Corden, he blamed the press’s treatment of him and his wife for why he left. Is that what he’s referring to in the Oprah interview, when he speaks of how bad it was for his mother? I think… probably. Here are the two teasers CBS released yesterday evening during 60 Minutes:

It will be very interesting to see the context of “I can’t imagine what it was like for her, going through this process by herself, all those years ago, because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.” Again, I think he’s probably only referring to the abusive press. But it’s also vague enough for a teaser where we can begin to have the conversation that Harry KNOWS how his father treated Diana. Harry KNOWS the institution threw a young Diana into the deep end, hoping to break her and destroy her and leave her voiceless. That Charles didn’t help Diana whatsoever.

Notice that we don’t actually hear Meghan speak in these teasers (I think we can hear a “yeah” at one point, but you get what I’m saying). The fact that she’s not quoted in the teasers means that she probably told Oprah some even bigger bombshells and they want people to tune in for all of it. Also, Oprah makes it clear that she was given carte blanche to ask whatever. Which we knew already. The interview airs on CBS on Sunday at 8 pm. It’s two hours long!!

I’m so ready for this. “Were you silent or were you silenced?” This is about to have the entire RF shook.

    • Julie says:

Notice how DM has gone (relatively) quiet. They are just bidding their time.

      • Amy Too says:

It’s going to be tricky for the press, I think. You have a visibly pregnant woman upset and talking about how the papers attacked her all through her last pregnancy and how it affected her and her health. I think it’s kinda of genius (but probably just coincidence) that this was filmed when she was visibly pregnant. How are you going to attack a pregnant woman talking about how she didn’t like it when you attacked her during her last pregnancy?

      • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, they’ve really found themselves in a predicament, haven’t they!

You’re exactly right about how the world will view attacking (again) a pregnant woman, but at the same time, you know that they’ll be positively bursting at the seams, wanting to let loose on Twitter.

It’s a very fine line to walk and I’m interested to see all the different ways they will inevitably handle it poorly.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Robert Jobson was sounding off on Twitter after the teaser… Harry did all the talking in those clips, but Jobson decided to blame Meghan, AGAIN. Twitter’s Sussex Squad very quickly put him in his place, with receipts, and more than one person saying “It’s 2am where you are shouldn’t you be in bed old man?” LMAO.

Dear tabloid media: the problem with declaring war on people for clickbait, is eventually, they find their armor, and then their weapons, and they fight BACK.

      • Trillion says:

I have a hard time imagining that any US network/platform would delay airing it in the event of Harry’s grandfather’s passing. I don’t think that many people in the US know who Prince Philip is or consider him important. The connection’s just not there.

    • Becks1 says:

For that to be the opening line of the teaser – yeah, this is going to be an EPIC interview. I am still thinking it wont be about the royal family so much as the press, but I do think Meghan is going to expose the courtiers. If I were Jason Knauf I’d be a little nervous right now.

      • L84Tea says:

I am burning with curiosity now how this interview is going to go. Originally, I didn’t know what to expect, but after seeing the clips, I feel like we are going to get a little more than we anticipated. No topic is off limits. I am with the majority that does not believe H&M will blast the RF, even though they deserve it. But I am getting the feeling that when it comes to the topic of the media, H&M are about to light the nuclear bomb and burn England to the ground.

    • Anne Call says:

Do you think they still run it if Phillip passes away?

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Are you asking if they’ll run it in the UK or in the US?

They might not in the UK… but in the US, of course they will. We won a war back in the 18th century so we wouldn’t have to kneel to Royal nonsense.

      • Feeshalori says:

And as someone mentioned on another thread, if they’re so concerned about Philip’s health they should cancel the queen’s CW show and speech being televised that same day. That’s a UK broadcast.

      • February-Pisces says:

The ratchet rota are desperate for big Phil to pass away on 7th March. That way they can actually call Meghan a murder.

      • Anne Call says:

Harry may not want it run if his grandfather dies this week. Maybe just wait for a month. But who knows…

      • VS says:

Was that a real question? or were you being sarcastic? We are in the US here, why should we give a damn about what’s happening in the UK?
I am pretty sure that the same people in the UK complaining about this interview will be those who are up to watch it live!

      • Bee says:

Honestly I don’t think it will air if PP passes before the air date. I am sure they have plans in place for if he does and that any events including CW day will change based on his passing. With his age abs what seems like concerning health they would clearly have a plan.

It would be very distasteful I think if he passes abs they aired it or shortly after. I think it’s fair to give the family time to mourn a loved one and pay respects and I’m sure though that looks different during Covid that the Firm has made plans in case it occurs.

The appalling BMedia are almost gleeful and hoping that it happens to drive a stupid narrative with the Sussex’s rather then hoping PP recovers or improves. That is disgusting.

      • Bee says:

Those who think it will run in the US because you won some war or don’t care what’s going on in the Uk- it’s Harry’s grandfather and I don’t think he will be a disrespectful arse and have it air just because the US seem to think they can live in a bubble and not pay attention to the rest of the world.

      • anotherlily says:

Bee – Harry has no control over CBS. The interview will air when CBS decides and I doubt if they will be influenced by anything happening in the UK.

      • Becks1 says:

I definitely dont think it will air if Phillip dies this week. Its not just about “being influenced by anything happening in the UK,” its also about protecting the integrity of the interview. They will be SLAMMED for airing it and that will become the focus, not the actual interview. My guess is if he passes, they delay the interview and Oprah will record a supplemental interview with them to address Phillip’s passing that will be included.

    • Isabella says:

This is classic deflection. Meghan and Harry are not allowed to call the British press toxic, unless Prince Phillip is in perfect health.

Next we’ll hear that Kate cried when she watched the clip and wasn’t able to make the school run.

  2. Amy Too says:

*random shrieking noises* I am so excited. It is on my calendar, circled and underlined with exclamation points. I told my family that I call the TV that night and everyone else needs to go be quiet in another room. I downloaded the CBS news app for my roku TV bc I don’t have cable or antenna or anything and that was free and gets 60 minutes.

Meghan looks gorgeous. I love the hair up and back.

    • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, SAME. If ANYONE has the audacity to bother me at any point during those two hours, I cannot be held responsible for my actions, and quite possibly might need someone to bail me out.

I legit can’t remember the last time I cared about watching something in real time. I’ve already asked my husband to have a backup ready on some device in case our cable goes out or something.

I’m not a sports fan in any way, but is this the way people feel about the Super Bowl?? Because now I get it!

      • bettyrose says:

I just signed up for CBS All Access to watch Clarice, so I assume I can watch this broadcast live? If so, does anyone know if I can watch the East Coast broadcast even though I’m in California?

      • Feeshalori says:

Do you have a CBS affiliate channel in CA, because this is on broadcast TV and you should be able to watch it on a regular channel. Here on the East Coast I could see it on my normal CBS channel.

      • bettyrose says:

Yes we have an affiliate channel, but we mounted the tv recently and never found a good place for the digital antennae so we just stopped watching broadcast altogether. Will definitely figure out the antennae if I can’t watch this on a Roku app. Not missing it!

      • Amy Too says:

Betty rose, I’m pretty sure you can watch it live with cbs all access. I chose cbs news bc it was free and cbs all access had a subscription fee, but I’m planning/hoping to watch it live from the app.

      • Feeshalori says:

Bettyrose, l empathize with you about digital TV because l suffer through the same situation trying to get the antenna to work to pick up local stations. The antics I have to go through to get a decent signal is criminal! I barely watch TV anymore for that reason but managed to get a good signal for CBS and hope it’s that way on Sunday.

    • Neners says:

CB really needs to do a live thread for this one

      • Snuffles says:

        Ditto!

      • Lorelei says:

I second the motion of a CB live post 🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Amy Too says:

I keep thinking I totally want that but also I don’t know if I’d be able to read it while being glued to the TV. I want it for commercial breaks and for right afterwards though!

      • anotherlily says:

Yes please! A live thread would be great for those of us in the UK. ITV or whoever gets to air the broadcast in the UK will screen it later, possibly much later .

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Love it

      • Anna says:

Yes!! I’m planning on staying up to watch this (if it gets leaked onto Youtube!) so having a live thread/post would be amazing!!

      • Laugh or Cry says:

Just want to say I love and appreciate all of you!!! Yes please 🤗

      • Ann says:

Please do as I will be out of town with no cable and unable to watch! It would be fun to follow along with you all.

    • Abby says:

      SAME SAME SAME

    • bamaborn says:

Lol! One of my friends, who follows none of this, just the other day asked me to remind her of the date and time. Again…Lol!

      • Monica says:

I just signed up for CBS all access because of this interview. Live blog, please!!!

    • SomeChick says:

Meghan looks amazing, and I love love LOVE that she’s brought back her side wisps! SO looking forward to this.

  3. local russian hill says:

over at the dailymail there are already 17k comments. many negative. the vitriol and contempt towards them is just beyond egregious.

    • Cecilia says:

Don’t expect anything decent from the mail. Readers nor writers LOL

    • Ginger says:

The daily mail never have positive comments on them. I saw an article that said 70% of the comments are from staff or bots. I never pay attention to their comment section. It’s just to push a certain narrative.

      • HeyJude says:

They definitely filter out critical comments. I’ve tried to roast them many times over the years on particularly offensive articles, I’d log in on an incognito window and do the same from another account when they’d erase my first comment and that second differently worded comment would get take down too. Even when it fit into the posting guidelines.

The take down any comment that’s negative towards them and dissenting from their opinion.

    • tmbg says:

No one says anything positive about them and 90% of the commenters are Trumpers. I expect nothing but negativity when I go to that site.

    • Isabelle says:

It is a lot of contempt because it is a husband actually daring to care for his wife and protects her above his wealth. That is what upsets people, that a man cares for his wife. Deep ingrained misogyny is behind it.

  4. Heather says:

I bet he’s referring not only to the British press but also to leaving the royal family alone. She effectively lost a whole family when she divorced. Not much of a ‘family’, but still. An institutionalized family of sorts but a family nonetheless. And her sons were still very much a part of that family. I often wonder if she had fears that they would be groomed to be back biting and rigid like the rest of them? I think it worked in Williams case. Harry was too sensitive and has just enough of his mother’s influence not to fully become one of them.

    I can’t wait for this!!

    • Snuffles says:

Yeah, I think at first Diana naively believed she gained a family after such a troubled childhood. Then reality slapped her in the face. She was definitely worried the family would turn her sons into one of them. I agree William was turned but Harry wasn’t. I wonder how much of that I’d down to their nature or was it because William was the heir and they spent all of their time Windsor-izing him and just largely neglected Harry because he was the spare.

      • Julie says:

With William I think it’s nature not just nurture. Remember the lost Diana tapes where she’s working on her public speaking? She cracks a harmless (and frankly very humanizing joke) and William who cant have been older than 12 snaps at Harry and her laughing. He says, “it’s not funny, she’s awful. This is being recorded”. No sense of humor even then. And more importantly, taking over the room as though he’s the ultimate authority.

      • Betsy says:

@Julie – I haven’t heard of those. How to search for them?

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

William, like all heirs, got fully windsorized. The world And wealth is yours by birth rite programming. All his mistakes were covered up and he was shielded from learning from consequences.
Harry grew up better. I think partly because he has his mothers compassionate side and from his time serving his country. It can’t be just a spare thing because all the Queens children are spoiled rotten and Andrew is a monster.

      • Laugh or Cry says:

@Julie, JMO, I think that was the main reason why Diana “cried” to William about everything, to try to develop some compassion within him. She knew how having feuding parents can effect children but I think she saw something in him that was hard and wanted to soften his heart.

    • Myra says:

I’ve said that once before, that at least Harry and Meghan have each other. Poor Diana had to face all this alone. This is why I don’t jump on the bandwagon that Diana was manipulative. She did what she had to do. There was no other options opened for her. She couldn’t plan or strategise her exit with a trusted confidante who loved her for herself. A nineteen year old girl married to a thirty-something men and used and abused by other older men in the institution. No, I don’t blame her for resorting to the media. It was the only way to get her side across. Unfortunately, she eventually paid with her life.

      • RoyalBlue says:

Yes Myra. She had to maneuver her way around that monster of a family. The family’s weapon of choice is psychological warfare.

      • Southern Fried says:

Completely agree. I think some bend over backwards blaming her for her shortcomings but the big picture tells the truth. She was alone against the RF and cohorts and courtiers and press.

      • February-Pisces says:

Yeah Meghan is so lucky to have harry throughout all of this. I think harry is the one guiding their decisions such as doing the interview and how they left etc. People always assume Meghan was the brains behind their exit because she is very smart, but it’s harry who has had to live in that environment his whole life and is the one who knows how the game works inside out. I think he has always thought about how he would leave should he have to.

Diana was well and truly alone in that environment. The queens private secretary at the time of her death was Robert Fellows, who was also married to Diana’s sister. He was one of the few people she feared the most, and he was her brother in law. Her death should have ended the monarchy.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

I think this interview is going to be about saying things without saying things.

That little snippet reminds us that Diana was attacked and frozen out of the BRF while in it and after. The parallels won’t be ignored.

I just want to say… I’m no fan of meg’s styling in these promos… the hair on the sides with the center part… dated and childish. And the black dress… ick. Had to get that out.

      • Monica says:

@Wiglet Watcher, I confess I’m probably the opposite of “b**** eating crackers” when it comes to Meghan, but this is not my favorite look of hers. Maybe she saw Gen Z attacking Millennials for their side parts!

      • Tessa says:

Diana had to fight back. Stuart Higgins of the Sun admitted Camilla would call him up with “her side” while Diana was married to Charles. Charles friends would leak stories about Diana like the “Harvey the dog story.” Harvey actually was incontinent and could not be in the house anymore, he was put in a kennel on the grounds and was not treated badly. If Diana said nothing, all the public would know was the propaganda that C and C put out.

    • Cecilia says:

I think the army really saved harry in that sense and i also think that this is where ge got to experience “real life” so to say

      • Snuffles says:

Yes, the Army definitely saved him. That is why he is so loyal to them.

      • JT says:

I don’t blame Diana either. Yes she married in, but she quite literally grew up in that family. She learned to be manipulative and cunning from them. She learned to work with the press from them. She spent a decade of some of the most important years of her life surrounded by the most awful people. It’s a wonder she was able to maintain any sense of humanity inside those walls. If people thing Diana was manipulative, well, she learned from the best.

      • notasugarhere says:

Diana learned her cunning before she met the Windsors. They weren’t the ones who had her throwing her step mother down the stairs when she was a teen and bragging about it, her signature uplook through the eye-lashes while she was courting the press before Charles proposed, etc.

      • JT says:

So an already damaged teenager marries into that family and becomes more damaged. She had an entire institution and a country’s worth of media against her. And she still was able to learn and grow as person throughout it all. I don’t think people expected a young girl who “threw her stepmother down the stairs” to be an early supporter of the aids crisis, championing the removal of landmines, and live to become one of the most beloved women in the world. I’m sorry, but I just don’t care about her press machinations through it all. I don’t care that she felt she had to play the game. She wasn’t perfect by any means, but she did what she felt she had to do and I can’t and won’t blame her for that.

      • Lorelei says:

        @JT: 👏👏👏

      • Myra says:

Courting the press? I saw paparazzi following her everywhere from the moment she stepped outside her apartment. Signature eyelashes? I only saw a shy girl who didn’t know how to react to the sudden public interest in her. She was only nineteen. She had not received any public coaching on how to act or behave under the sudden glare of the press. A naive girl taken advantage of by a much older man, who had had years in the public eye.

      • -M says:

@NOTASUGARHERE Not to excuse the “pushing her stepmother down the stairs” incident, let’s get some background on the stepmother too. That is “Raine McCorquodale” later Raine Spencer who was nicknamed “Acid Raine”. I wonder why?!?

      • Tessa says:

Diana and Raine had a fight over how Raine treated Frances Shand Kydd, Diana’s mother. This was not before the wedding this was at CHarles Spencer’s first wedding. (which was ill fated). Diana pushed Raine so she tripped on some steps not a staircase. Raine and Diana became close friends and stayed that way until Diana’s death. Raine praised Diana in interviews. Whatever happened, they made up. Charles was said by the Housekeeper in that book banned in the UK, to have temper tantrums one where he pulled out a sink from the bathroom floor. I think at the outset of the marriage Diana was seen more as a broodmare or vessel for future heirs. I don’t think they cared much about her otherwise.

    • Mac says:

I don’t know if Harry knows how awful the BRF was to his mother. He was really young when she died and he grew up with the Windsor’s side of the story. He is conditioned not to believe what he sees in the press so it would be easy for him to dismiss all the tabloid stories.

      • Tessa says:

I found it just horrid reading about what happened to Harry and William after Diana’s death. They were told they needed to go to Church. The Queen did not have prayers read for Diana which confused Harry. What a heartless bunch they are. Then they took the boys hunting for a few days.

  5. Angie says:

OMG. this is going to be big.

  6. tee says:

It actually kind of bothered me that Meghan didn’t speak? As if she’s still being silenced. There’s surely strategy behind it, but I don’t like it lol

I’m excited for this, but I really hope it has its intended effect. These things notoriously backfire.

    • Snuffles says:

It’s a teaser to get people excited. Oprah is not trying to silence her at all.

    • Julie says:

Oprah is not stupid and I know she’s briefed Meghan on how public opinion works. She knows the hate for women, for women of color and for liberals will overwhelm the reception. AT FIRST. But it’s essential to get her POV on the record because when the pendulum swings back the BRF and media won’t be able to revise history as they’ve repeatedly done. Meghans “Britney” moment will come. And I should have called it her “Diana” moment because Di went through very similar hate campaigns. The second she died, the very people who run those campaigns were talking amorphously about how “the media destroyed her”. Bitch, you were the media!

    • Sunday says:

I think the strategy was, watch how the british press cannot help themselves one single iota – she did not say anything in the trailers, Harry did, and yet look at all the attacks against her, the vitriol being thrown her way. The RRs are going nuts on twitter and blaming her of course, not Harry, and some scum paper had an article about her cradling her baby bump again. It’s a real-time example of everything Harry said in the Corden interview, playing out over 60 seconds of non-commentary from Meghan. It proves the entire thesis without her having to utter a word.

      • Drun says:

        Yes, you are exactly right!

      • Lorelei says:

Oh for God’s sake, we’re going to have to endure months of the “stomach cradling” hysteria again, aren’t we? I hadn’t even thought of that, but I should have since it was 100% predictable.

These people exhaust me and I only read about them! I cannot even imagine what the unrelenting vitriol does to Harry and Meghan.

I love that Meghan wore black for this interview— appropriate considering the subject matter

      • Becks1 says:

I think this is exactly right – the reaction is just proving the point of everything Harry says.

Its like we said after the James Corden interview – the way to show you arent toxic is to behave in a non-toxic manner lol.

      • EllenOlenska says:

It would be brilliant if Oprah’s team pointed this out during the segment.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

No, no, no!!!! EVERYONE ELSE (read white) “cradles” their bump. Meghan had been accused of “CLUTCHING” her Archie-bump “EXCESSIVELY”. Quite the difference. I noticed this a LOT with the current crop of pregnant celebs in the BM tabloids.

      • Tessa says:

Even Eugenie was holding her stomach. But the usual anti Meghans go in for taunts because she holds her stomach. IT is “beautiful” when Zara, Kate and Eugenie do this.

    • Lemons says:

This is smart. If there were soundbites from Meghan, the vitriol would be directed specifically at her. Also, people will have to tune in to hear what she has to say instead of just commenting on soundbites. We already have heard Harry speak on the subject, so getting his soundbites isn’t as “costly.”

    • Melissa says:

I think a big part of the Sussexes’ motivation in this interview is to make it 1000% clear that it was Harry who decided to leave, and that he’s been calling the shots the whole time (with her support). They’re trying to kill the “Poor Harry is under the thumb of his domineering American wife” trope. Having a week’s worth of news with only his words to parse will go a long way towards that end.

    • LillyfromLillooet says:

@tee I hear you about these sorts of in-depth tell-all interviews backfiring. A true backfire though is when Lance Armstrong or Prince Andrew just further cement poor public opinion by being the people they are. This isn’t that.

Harry and Meghan have spoken and acted in ways that represent the best of humanity. And I’m sadly aware that no matter what they say, there is going to be blowback. I hope know that they are beloved by many and feel as if they are in a better place now. I am gritting my teeth at how the British press is going to cover this–when you already know it will be nasty, it’s not journalism.

      • molly says:

Harry and Meghan didn’t do anything wrong, yes! They didn’t take drugs or traffic/rape underaged girls. They left a job they didn’t want to do anymore. it boggles my mind everyday how rage people get about something that has nothing to do with them and hurt no one.

    • sayso says:

I think that it was wise. Meghan is a headline and the narrative has been that she caused all this, Poor Harry. Lead with him, his reasons, his voice, and it kind of tears that wicked witch of the west image apart.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

It might be that it was done this way, to protect still-pregnant Meghan from the tsunami of vitriol from the same press that can’t keep H&M’s names out of their mouths while at the same time calling them “irrelevant”. Harry will do anything to protect her, and I’m willing to bet he blames the press for the last miscarriage, and for their attempts to get Meghan to miscarry Archie.

I mean, look at the tabloid press going full guano over that teaser. Not ONE single word was said about the press being racist in those clips, and the hit dogs are hollerin’ all over Salty White People Island that “we’re not racist”. Uh huh. Sure. Tell it to Danny Baker, rota rats.
      They keep telling on themselves.

Speaking of telling on themselves, I wonder if we’re going to hear expressions of rage from CH/Highgrove, now that The Crown has swept the GGs and Josh O’Connor has won for his portrayal of the Grand Poobah of Petulant Salty White Male Aggrievement, aka The Prince of Whales?

  7. Noki says:

I saw a side by side of their engagement interview and this Oprah one. The contrast in their eyes and body language is intense. They were so excited and looking forward to their roles and dare i say naive. They really got quite a shock there after.

    • Lorelei says:

@Noki ITA with your comment, and it also looked a little bit to me as if she’d been crying

      • Gillysirl says:

Completely agree with both of you on this. I imagine she knew there would be resistance – just didn’t realize so much of it it would come from within his family.

  8. Snuffles says:

This is gonna hit like a nuclear bomb. If the royal family, The Firm, and the RRs thought the reaction to The Crown was bad, they ain’t seen nothing yet.

And, yes, I agree the bulk of Harry’s ire will be towards the press. But he’s also setting up how the family and the institution did nothing about it and is making direct comparisons to how Diana was treated. Thrown to the wolves and left to fend for herself.

  9. Yoyo says:

They’re having melt downs on the Island.
Oprah the Drama Queen, the clip with Megan alone was amazing, silent or silenced.
I think Meghan is done with the Royal Family from last March, she didn’t go to the meetings with Harry and apparently was not on the Zoom calls when Harry was negotiating with his family.
After the Commonwealth service, the same night she was on a plane back to Canada.

    • My Two Cents says:

I love that Meghan has Oprah on her side. There was a long time of silence from everyone and it felt a bit like it was really just them against the world. I know that their close friends don’t speak to the press, but it’s still good now to finally get all this out – and with Oprah, speaking to the world! Amazing and I can’t wait!

    • bamaborn says:

Loved her demeanor at the CW services. If her mind could be read, it was like, “just a few more hours and I’m outta this sh*t.”

      • UptownGirl says:

Yes!! She was able to see the finish line and could feel it. The best part about CW is that we now have a clear picture of PWT and Her Keen Laziness in all their glorious hatred and their atrocious actions, but the RR’s never criticize them, it’s always Meghans fault and no matter how things come out in the press, it’s always Meghans fault. The problem with that is that they are trying to change the narrative, but anyone with eyes can see how toxic the press and The Firm, especially PWT, has been towards Meghan and more importantly Harry.

  10. Sofia says:

My first thought was “wow this promo is so dramatic”

But I agree. Most of their “anger” will be towards the British media and they probably will name specific reporters. The BRF will probably, at worst, get a “we really wish the family were more supportive” but won’t name names and that’ll be it. Maybe the courtiers will be mentioned too.

Sorry, but Meghan can’t do a big tell all interview and generate the same amount of sympathy and understanding that a blonde haired, blue eyed English aristo like Diana got. I think Meghan knows this hence her comments in the past about being careful about what she says and so does Oprah tbh.

And at the end of the day, the ones who like them will continue to like them. The ones who don’t will never like her because nothing will humanise the monster of Meghan they’ve created. The ones who are “on the fence” or indifferent will remain that way because they’re not as invested as we are lol. At best they’ll respond to a headline and watch clips of it but that’s it.

    • Snuffles says:

I disagree Sofia. The fence sitters are starting to take Meghan and Harry’s side. I’ve seen numerous instances of people on Twitter going “Oh! NOW I get why they left” because the RRs have gone absolutely bonkers.

      • Sofia says:

Like I said they’ll take a side and go “awwww” or “shut up you whiny rich woman” depending on what they take away but at the end of the day, these people will remain largely uninvested in the long term other than big news.

They’re not going to become SussexSquad members or start following tinhats or something

    • tee says:

Your latter point is my thought as well. It’s the unfortunate reality that black women are not allowed complete vulnerability. So I hope Meghan protects herself to an extent, bc it’s not worth it to put herself totally out there just to be further dehumanized. People will always sympathize with Harry because of Diana, but that sympathy will likely not extend to Meghan, who’s experienced the brunt of the abuse the last 4 years. And tbh, people should sympathize bc she’s human and has done nothing wrong, not just because her husband has experienced trauma.

      • Sofia says:

As someone said above, Meghan hasn’t actually said anything other than a “yeah” and she’s facing the brunt of the attacks already.

      • sunny says:

Yes to all of this. I actually think it is essential for black women to show vulnerability even though people and society refuse to see and acknowledge our humanity. Hopefully Meghan gets to own her own narrative and this is another great example of taking control and taking back her power.

      • Lorelei says:

Harry has insinuated and flat out stated publicly that Sussexit was his decision, not Meghan’s — but as usual, they don’t truly listen to him or to take seriously what he has to say.

Harry could shout until he’s blue in the face that he’d made it known for years, before he even met Meghan, that he thought seriously about stepping away from the family, but it doesn’t matter. They will blame everything on Meghan until the end of time.

      • L4frimaire says:

That’s my biggest hesitation with this, that Meghan will always be the target and always be blamed. There is little sympathy for Black woman, in this country and certainly not over there. There will not be the same reaction this, as there was to Corden’s segment with Harry. I don’t think it will be totally heavy like that clip, but that will be all the press focuses on. However, no matter what happens, she will be the bad guy, silent or not. I really wonder when the decision was made so early into the marriage to drive her out, if this is what the royal family wanted, because no one seems happy over there with getting what they wanted.

    • Nyro says:

I totally disagree. The fence sitters are already moving. And this isn’t 1992. We are living in the age of Me Too, reckoning with the press treatment of Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, and Black Lives Matter. There will be pushback against anyone who tries to invalidate the misogynoir Meghan experienced. The days of sitting silent in our pain are over. There’s a reason that infamous Buzzfeed article comparing the press treatment of Kate and Meghan has gone viral and opened people’s eyes. It wouldn’t have made a difference in 1992 but it does now.

      • Sofia says:

Once again, yes there will be people who do call out the media but the tide will generally stay the same. The US/International media likes them quite a bit and the Americans/non Brits who keep up with royal gossip seem to like them so it’s not like any change is going to happen there.

In the UK, the media is not going to stop. They’ll continue to be hateful and most Brits will continue to just shrug because most people are indifferent to the royals. And I say this as a Brit

    • Bea says:

I agree, I don’t think we’ll hear any real grievances with the rf until the queen has passed. May sound harsh but people here are very loyal to her, but Charles remains so disliked I believe there will be a lot less backlash to criticism when he is the head. I look forward to hearing the truth about what kind of aggressive nonsense they put this couple through then.

  11. Phoenix says:

I am so nervous about this interview already. The abuse starts again and…idk. I feel a bit down. I really like Harry and Meghan, but I just can’t switch off the noise and hatrage coming from this horrible people. They will never hear and understand the message of Harry and Meghan
Anyway, Meghan is gorgeous! Look at that pretty face. She looks so different with this pregnancy. And Harry is not looking bad himself lol

    • Julie says:

But the hatred never stopped. It never ever stops. I see Piers Morgan and his cohorts trying to claim that they got good press before they married. Rubbish. Piers was already platforming her sister by that point. From the moment Meghan came into the picture, they were using dogwhistles. Remember how they went after her for every single thing she did on the South Africa tour and yet they turn around and say she got good press then. Might as well just tell your side of the story if they’re going to hate you anyway.

    • Roserose says:

I’m feeling the same way, really. I tried to create some positivity in the world by donating to some of M and H’s charities. A happy unintended side effect was that I felt a bit better about it all.

    • Sunday says:

I get that, but I think my takeaway is, those fools are just exposing themselves as the racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, backwards-thinking morons that they are. I don’t value their opinions, because I know the hatred that clouds them, nor would I want their approval, because if those jackals approve of me then surely I’m on the wrong side of history.

For me, I’ll just keep fervently supporting Meghan and Harry and all that they do, and the haters and hyenas will continue to expose themselves for the abusive clowns that they are. Better that they’re out in the open, identified, and stayed away from than silent and still masquerading as actual journalists or walking among us kindhearted compatriots.

    • Case says:

I’m nervous, too. I know a lot of folks on here are really excited about this, and it is good that they’re finally able to speak for themselves without the BRF controlling them, but all I see this doing is adding more fuel to the fire and getting them even more backlash. A big part of me wishes they’d just live happily and focus on their new lives instead of spending a long interview reflecting on the past. I just…don’t see it going well. I’m not optimistic about it. At all. I probably will opt to watch the Critics Choice Awards live over this because it gives me second-hand anxiety!

      • Elizabeth says:

The interview will also cover their philanthropic and business work (Netflix documentaries or films etc.). It is going to be positive and forward-looking too. Meghan had never really given an interview about her issues with the press or royal family, so if she wants to she may as well make a statement now and get it out there. I’m sure she will keep it classy, but it’s important for her to have a voice and be able to make her statement since she has been so maligned and stabbed in the back. It can be healing to speak your truth even if she does get some blowback. I think Oprah understands that very well.

      • Desdemona says:

I agree with Case… I’m a little scared for them. They should just turn away forever, forget the rest of the family and BM and live their lives. Giving the RF and BM this much attention is giving pearls to pigs…

      • UptownGirl says:

@ Elizabeth Says, I agree with you. Why shouldn’t she be able to share her thoughts and experiences? She has been blamed consistently since she entered into The Firm without saying a word! She will be prosecuted in the British press no matter what she says or does, so why not tell them how she has felt? Of course, Meghan will certainly protect herself in what she does divulge because that is who she is. Meghan is also not the type of person to spill everything because that is not her nature. Meghan will stick it to the RR’s, her immediate family and possibly some of the staff at BP, but that’s it. Otherwise, it will be their plans from here on out. And f#ck, why do the British press consistently talk about the cost of their mansion?!? I am so sick of every single one of these blood thirsty bottom feeders!

      • Beth says:

I agree with CASE. I wish Meghan never did this interview. She’s just helping them sell more newspapers with her story which will not change anything. In fact it will generate more tv talking points plus more revenue in advertisement for them. As a Brit I know most people don’t hate her and it’s the honest truth. Theres a tactic these manipulative tabloids use. Most of their comments sections are bots and computer generated to sway public opinion. I saw a tweet today that had already identified a sequence of bot comments, word for word by 5 different accounts. Meghan and Harry news on YT also did an episode where he identified lots of bot comments. This is how the tabloids over here manage to deceive the public into thinking most people are against her which in actual fact isn’t the case.
Harry and Meghan are too pure. You can’t be ‘pure’ in this evil business whilst your reputation gets shredded or put in tatters. They need to find an aggressive PR firm that can give back to the press the same manipulative tactics they use. I remember when all this nonsense started in 2018 a middle aged white lady left a comment on one of meghans fans pages, She said “H&M are playing with fire, they are underestimating the power of the press, they need a good PR firm to work with or at least one newspaper to get their story out there, they can’t let this go on” …..I wish I had taken screenshot her comment. She was so right, You need an aggressive PR firm to stay afloat. Not even Dianas death change our press or killed their business, why do you think pouring your heart in an Oprah interview or being angelic will?

Camilla shd be the one facing all the vitriol and unprecedented attacks but she’s still smiling, no one is attacking her.

It’s a cruel world we live in, there’s not much accountability anymore, even the courts are all biased and heavily influenced, it’s a game of survival of the fittest. Celebrities know this and have PR firms monitoring their reputations 24/7 online, H&M have to be smarter than this and beat the press at their game. I’m tired fighting online lol.

David Beckham cheated on his wife but within a week his reputation was intact, back on track thanks to his PR firm. No one remembers that episode anymore. Cheryl tweedy beat a toilet attendant, no one saw such attacks against her, in fact she has to date been named the nations sweetheart.

  12. Lorelei says:

OH MY GOD I CANNOT WAIT!!

SORRY FOR SCREAMING BUT I’M JUST SO EXCITED!!

    • Ang says:

I’m so excited for the content, I barely noticed how beautifully preggie plump Meg looks, and how beautiful their home is and how lovely the are as a couple.

    • Becks1 says:

ME TOO! This is going to be a lot better than I had thought. I dont think it will be as much fluff as some had anticipated.

  13. Lady Luna says:

“At least we had each other,” that’s so heartbreaking! I’m glad they left that toxic environment.

  14. Cecilia says:

By how harry spoke of his grandmother in the james cordon video i think we can guarantee they won’t name any family members but they are about to go all in on the press. I hope they don’t only address the articles printed (backed by receipts) but also death threats sent megs way and the illegal practices of the press, again aided by receipts to back it up. And i want them to show the faces of the so called carnival so that viewers know exactly who not to listen to.

    • Julie says:

And the men in grey suits. I’ll be very disappointed if Meghan doesn’t overtly confirm Dianas story for the dumb-dumbs who still don’t get how evil the palace machine is.

    • Ginger says:

Harry isn’t going to name names but I think he is going to throw shade. Him saying that his mom had to fight this alone and him telling James Corbin that he is more comfortable with the Crown than the stories from the tabloids is throwing shade at his dad.

Charles lost it when the Crown aired. He had his friends constantly talk to the press, he turned the comments off on his social media and they even had them add a disclaimer for the show. He did ALL of that for a show that is fiction but didn’t lift a finger for his own son who was clearly suffering. Harry’s comments regarding the crown was a shot at his dad.

    • S808 says:

The press must be irate with the Palace. They promised she wouldn’t be able to defend herself. They failed to deliver a golden cash cow that would last YEARS in exchange for silence about William and Andrew’s mess. They don’t even have a lawsuit win to gloat about. They have no exclusives and no Sussex sources within the Palace. Yeah, they’ll get some revenue from this interview but they’re the main villains and the run is only short term. The palace failed to uphold their side of the deal and I doubt the they’ll bare the brunt of this interview.

    • Lorelei says:

@Cecilia, if they don’t actually speak names, I would love it if they at least show images of some of the most hateful, egregious headlines and tweets, allowing the world to see exactly who wrote these vile things. The names and bylines will get out there, but it will remove the concern of the Sussexes being criticized for naming names.

      • booboocita says:

I think this is what the show will do. We’ll see images of the front pages of the tabloids and snapshots of tweets. That lets the producers show how vile the press was without explicitly naming anyone. Then, if anyone complains, the producers can say, “Well, you put it out there — violated your own privacy, you did!”

  15. Jessica says:

I am perched and ready. Royal reporters, you are the villains of the piece, along with the institution itself. Don’t delude yourselves otherwise. Own your vile behavior and drop the self-righteous nonsense.

  16. Sunday says:

Oh-my-Oprah I was shocked when I saw these teasers. So sad for Harry and Meghan and what they’ve gone through, thoroughly relieved that they got out and these fools didn’t break them, and actually cackling at the meltdowns this ONE MINUTE of footage has already caused with the usual suspects. I don’t know what to expect now but WOW am I here for it.

Also giggling at what nonsense the palace will trot out to try and distract from this – kate will be cartwheeling in front of buckingham palace handing out tiaras to orphans by week’s end.

    • ziaaa says:

@Sunday “what nonsense the palace will trot out tot try and distract from this”
Philip!!!! I am telling you Philip should sleep with one eye open….

      • Yoyo says:

Philip was moved to another hospital, besides the infection, his heart is being monitored.

      • Ang says:

        @yoyo Hilarious!

      • Ang says:

        @yoyo Hilarious!

      • Nyro says:

Isn’t it crazy how Philip’s ailments always seem to flare up anytime anything new drops regarding this interview. We didn’t hear a thing about ol’ Phil for like a week, and they said he was fine and responding well to treatment. Then the teasers drop and all of a sudden, he’s being transferred to another hospital and there’s all this drama. Philip had better call his common law wife and tell her to come get him out of there because I don’t put it past the Firm to pull the plug on him to stop that I interview from airing.

      • Ang says:

Sorry, I meant @Ziaaa is hilarious (Phillip should sleep with one eye open). Of course I don’t think it’s funny an old man is ill.

      • Tessa says:

Kate and William will trot out the kids close to interview time.

    • EllenOlenska says:

@Sunday She’s going to need to add a backflip at the end of that routine! And yes…@ziaaa a well-timed Phillip “event” would certainly come in handy!

      • lanne says:

That’s the only way they can stop the interview. They may just pull the plug on the old guy. But all that will do is delay the interview for a while. Or heck, they may go ahead and show it in North America and not air it in the UK.

      • BeanieBean says:

Philip’s death would in no way affect CBS’ airing of the interview.

    • Lorelei says:

I would give anything to be a fly on the wall at either Amner or KP, wherever the Cambridges are, when they watch this. Same with the Corden segment. Just IMAGINE William and Kate watching all of this. It’s delightful.

    • Hell Nah! says:

      @Sunday
“Also giggling at what nonsense the palace will trot out to try and distract from this – kate will be cartwheeling in front of buckingham palace handing out tiaras to BLACK orphans by week’s end.”
      I can see it now…

    • Beth says:

I really would like Oprah to pull the commonwealth event and play the video of kate ignoring them, then ask Harry and Meghan how they felt. That will be the highlight for me.

I will be relieved that the world gets to see how mean the family was was especially Kate.

  17. Angie says:

Also – I have a feeling we will see Archie even if for a moment.

    • Desert Lizard says:

I hope so but it wouldn’t surprise if we don’t. I know they are trying so hard to protect him from the vicious media that would tear him apart, body part by body part. I cannot imagine how they deal with all of the nastiness that is sent their way.

    • MF1 says:

I think they won’t show him, and I’m OK with that. He’s so young that it’s probably best for his development and safety to keep him away from the cameras.

    • Ginger says:

I doubt it. Gayle King said this interview was done at a friends house. I doubt they brought him along.

    • molly says:

I think we’ll get a new photo during B-roll, but I doubt he’ll be on camera.

  18. Snuffles says:

@Sofia I’m implying that these people will suddenly become Sussex Squad warriors. I’m just saying they will finally get why they left and agree that the RRs are the worst. That’s will probably be the extent of it.

    • Sofia says:

That’s what I’m saying as well. But what I’m also saying is that anyone hoping the tide will suddenly change against Meghan and the negative attacks will cease or even lessen… shouldn’t hope for that.

      • Snuffles says:

In regards to the UK press. Of course not. They will continue their cruelty because that’s all they know how to do. But some people will start to see how over the top, cartoonishly villainous they have become.

This will break the RRs brains and could very well be the beginning of them throwing the royal family and courtiers under the bus because they feel like their pact has been broken.

      • JT says:

I think people have to remember that this is for the American audience. This interview is for an American network, with one of the biggest American journalists we have, airing in America. This interview is to reintroduce Meghan and Harry to their new audience and explain what has happened to us. Most Americans weren’t familiar with what was going in the UK and most of us certainly aren’t familiar with how the BM works.

    • Gina says:

Sadly, I think this interview won’t influence British public much, I mean, those who are interested in Royals at all. Even if some will see the truth now, they all know they are accomplices in this hate crime therefore they can’t admit they were wrong.
Secondly, judging most of the tweets of M&H haters, they won’t let facts influence their opinions. For them Daily Fail articles are ultimate truth.
But the world.. My hopes on the non-British people’s opinion.

      • JT says:

Your right about the opinions of Brits might not change much. The monarchy is pretty entrenched and their press is very coordinated and right wing. The BM is famously vicious and this is said from many famous Brits. I think H&M know this and I don’t think they did this interview for the UK. They have to court a new audience now. I believe the international press will have a different opinion on it though and H&M are thinking globally now. The comments on the James Corden interview were mostly positive and many stated that they understood why they left.

      • Dpalmier says:

Erm… not all of us read or believe the Daily Mail!!

  19. Christa says:

Honestly if the palace wanted influence over their media presence, they should have worked out a half in deal. Staffers probably saw cutting them loose as punishment but it also means they have little to lose by being candid.

    • Prairiegirl says:

And no reason to coordinate their news releases and announcements with Buck House or any of the other palaces.

    • MF1 says:

Yup, this situation is the Palace’s fault. When they refused a half-in deal, they also gave up any control of H&M.

      • L4frimaire says:

Also the palace would not leave them alone and continued to sanction attacks and ramp up the “ punishments “. The thing with the wreath and the birth certificate was just nasty and so unnecessary. Stringing along the patronages instead of making a clean break from the start. Even things like leaking their locations when they were in Canada or went on vacation. I think the palace and courtiers thought they could use the press against the Sussexes, but the press ended up running the show. Part of me is very nervous because once stuff is out there, how it’s received is out of your control.

  20. Amy Bee says:

I can’t wait to watch on Sunday. I still think that they won’t name names but I think they will point out the press and the institution as the culprits in this saga.

  21. sandy says:

I really hope they just point out the hypocrisy. Like how the other siblings/children sometimes talk to the press, Mike Tindall has a podcast, etc.

  22. Water Bearer. 💧 says:

Those clips were intense. Just watch as the right wing press smear campaign intensifies leading up to the interview on Sunday.

They as well as the royal family are mad that Harry and Meghan are flourishing outside the institution. I suspect they thought and wished they would flounder and regret their decision but it’s been the actual opposite.

I can’t wait to watch it. I hope it lives up to the hype.

  23. Darla says:

Even I’m going to watch this, and I haven’t been interested in the Royals since Diana died. I have a little interest in Harry since he married Meghan, an actually interesting move, and zero interest in any of the rest.

  24. Digital Unicorn says:

As much as I would love them to chuck the RF under the bus they won’t – its not their style. There maybe some shade but I don’t think Harry wants to burn that bridge with his family, esp with his father and grandparents.

However, there is one couple who has to worry about any potential shade that might be dropped – am sure a certain rage monster is rampaging around Sandringham over Harry mentioning their mother.

  25. Harper says:

Meghan looks like she is about to cry so I think that, mixed with the excitement of her finally getting a chance to speak, there will be real sadness for the crushing environment she was living in. Also, I thought Oprah would wear a better outfit? Or is it just me? And it looks like Prince Philip will be in the hospital for the duration of the buildup to this interview because at this point I can’t imagine what he is doing in there. Even surgical patients get pushed out of the hospital after two weeks.

    • Amy Bee says:

It’s being reported that Philip is being transferred to another hospital. I believe in coincidences but not when it comes to the Royal Family.

    • Yoyo says:

This is Oprah’s serious journalist outfit, she wants to focus all the attention on her Subjects, kidding, Opes glad rags maybe worth a boatload of money.

    • Jaded says:

He’s been transferred to a hospital that specializes in heart issues – interesting in that it appears none of the royal family members have one.

      • Feeshalori says:

It’s possible he has congestive heart failure which many elderly people get. Both my parents had it as they got older.

    • Kkat says:

      It said originally for infection.
I was in the hospital for almost 5 weeks last January for an infection from a tooth.
I got cellulitis from the strep infection that developed from my tooth.
I had to be on heavy duty I.V. antibiotics for it.
That kind of infection can turn you septic and it can affect your organs, like the heart.

If it’s something like that, he could be in pretty bad shape

  26. Linda says:

I will record the interview so that I don’t watch bloody commercials. Also, I think she’s having a girl. She has that slight hormone puffiness in her face that you get when carrying a girl.

    • Margot says:

Came here to say this. Her face – she really looks like she’s carrying a girl!

  27. Mina_Esq says:

Harry may be attacking the media, but he is also saying that the two of them got no support from the royal family. That’s really damning too. So glad they’re out. Meghan looks gorgeous. Harry looks relaxed. Oprah looks like the goddess that she is. Can’t wait to watch this!

  28. Woowza says:

it was confirmed – explicitly said on CBS – that the interview had been extended tot two hours! i tought it would be 90min + commercials but no! full 2 hours interview

  29. Darla says:

Well, Philip is 150 years old, he IS going to die, I hate to tell the British people. I hope he doesn’t pop off over the next week or two because then Meghan will be blamed. They are always adding “especially with Prince Philip in the hospital” Give it a rest! He’s older than dirt it has nothing to do with the actions of these two.

    • Amy Bee says:

The Queen decided to release a statement regarding Harry and Meghan with Philip in the hospital. She could have waited until he was discharged.

    • lanne says:

They will be blamed if he pops off 10 years from now. All these people know how to do is blame the outsider. Old people die. 99 year olds die. 95 year olds die.

  30. S808 says:

That head tilt…..the look in her eyes……Mama has something to say. I can’t wait to hear your story Meghan. I hope Oprah’s team has been stalking fan accounts cause they have receipts on top of receipts! I also love that she brought the “messy bun” (insert eye roll here) back and the belly cupping!!

  31. MellyMel says:

Well…I already teared up when Harry mentioned his mom, so let me get my tissues (and wine) ready. And they extended the interview from 90 minutes to two hours…H&M have SOMETHING TO SAY! I love it!

  32. CMS says:

I am torn about this interview. I am happy for them and their new life. I believe that they have made the right decisions. I hope this interview brings them what they are looking for. I fear that it just just going to cause more circus and grief.

    • Prairiegirl says:

I agree completely. I’m struggling to remember the last time a highly anticipated sit down interview with a member of the BRF resulted in the immediate good publicity they were aiming for.

    • Snuffles says:

Well, the British media will do what they usually do, go nuclear for the Sussex’s daring to show their faces and saying anything.

But the US and the rest of the world will see what we see. Some will become supporters, some will feel sympathy, some won’t care. But Harry and Meghan don’t need to change everyone’s mind to their side. Just enough to gain support for their foundation and their Spotify and Netflix projects.

This interview will do just that.

    • Susan says:

Completely agree. I’m a big M+H fan but I think this could backfire. At least they are not in Africa this time when talking about this. I felt the timing and location of that interview was not ideal, however meaningful the subject matter.

      • lulu brown says:

Susan, I promise, I’m not attacking you, but I have a question for people who think as you do. It’s funny that Meghan has been smeared by the British Press for almost 4yrs had over 250,000 negative articles written about her. She could never defend herself. No one came to her rescue but a few friends, fans, and husband. Why is it when she finally can stand up to her bullies do some think this could backfire?
If 250.000 negative article written about her and she still manages to be the most popular, most googled, most impactful of all the royals with patrons. I don’t see why you think this will backfire. People who hate her will hate her. People who love her will love her. It is what it is, but people with Common sense will look at the British press and Royal family side-eyes. The only people that should be worried is the RF; even with all the gaslighting the Press does for them, they still can’t manage to pique people’s interest, and after this interview, it’s a wrap for them more than for Harry and Meghan. I have a strong feeling they will announce Prince Philip’s death either Friday Or Saturday. Why? Because they don’t want this interview to happen.

      • Susan says:

@lulu brown, thanks for “not attacking me” but I feel this way and I’m not alone. This comment has been mirrored in previous ones above; As one poster above said, ‘there haven’t been a lot of tell all royal interviews that resulted in positive press immediately after.’ I hope this is the exception and not the rule.

      • Ginger says:

Regarding the Africa documentary, Tom Bradby said himself that HE is the one that wanted to interview them about the press and how they were handling it. Harry and Meghan wanted it to just be about Africa.

This won’t backfire and they should get their story out. They haven’t been able to speak out for 4 years, it’s time.

      • Q says:

Well said, lulu. Couldn’t agree more.
It’s just fake concern trolling at this point. Meghan will be attacked by the british press no matter what. I’ve seen much more support for her and harry so I don’t know what “Susan” is on about. Most british people see right through the smear campaign, of course you wouldn’t know that if you hang out at the daily fail comment section filled with staff, hags and bots.

      • Susan says:

So for having an opinion *slightly* different than yours, “Q,” this means I belong at the DM comment section and or that I am a hag? Is that really fair?

    • Amy Too says:

I think they just want to be able to have their story on the record. I don’t think it’s about getting 100% good publicity right away. The people who hate will hate more, the people who love will love more. The people who are neutral will probably not watch or will watch and find them sympathetic especially if the connection to Diana is made. I just don’t see Harry and Meghan analyzing the statistics of who received the interview well and who did not. They just want to be able to respond, set the record straight, and move on, so it can be on the record for the future when people are writing books and analyzing everything.

I can’t see it blowing up in their faces at all. It will just draw a short burst of intense British media hate, which they get anytime they do anything. Literally anything. But there will be a ton of International social media support and indignation on their behalf for the press and the monarchy.

They’ll likely segue into launching a bunch of stuff right after this interview so it’s not like the interview will be the only thing that’s going on with them and the only thing to talk about. They’re going to be moving on to doing lots of interesting charity and media work. If it was this interview and then they took a one year hiatus where all the media had to talk about regarding them was the interview, that might backfire. But even if they come off as “whiney” or “complaining” or “ungrateful,” how can that really stick when they then launch kitchens all over the world, and other Archewell foundation projects, and documentaries about their patronages? Especially if part of the narrative in the interview is that they wanted to work more but felt held back and now they can work.

Oprah and Meghan and Harry are smart. I think that’s why they’re ending on a “what’s next?” note in the interview. It will be past, grievances, old hurts, the present, current feelings, the future, hopes, dreams, projects, “check their new thing out,” how we’ve moved on, our family is growing, check out this cute thing about Archie; It’s not going to end on a note of self-pity or resignation, I don’t think.

      • Agree AMY TOO…..and they’ve already started segwaying. Archewell website was recently updated and I think there will be more to come. And why should they sit down and shut up? Whenever someone or some people have been oppressed or marginalized, others tell them to just be quiet. Thank God, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Gandhi, etc., felt they had a right to their truth and their voice. In a similar —- but smaller —- way, the Sussexes have a right to their truth and their voice.

      • MA says:

+1 Amy Too That’s exactly what I came here to say. Diana suffered blowback when she gave her interview but without it we would’ve never had a firsthand account of everything she went through. Years later, countless shows and books have been based on her actual words. The Sussexes will be besieged right away but are playing the long game. They will go on the record once and for all to move forward and leave it all behind, but they will also be creating primary source material for the future that will help cut through the tabloid nonsense.

      • Mustlovedogs says:

@Amytoo just want to let you know your comments are so appreciated. Balanced, interesting, fair and educated. You are also excellent at calling out fake concern trolling in a mature non aggressive way. Thank you!

    • MF1 says:

There will definitely be backlash but really, the British press is *always* going to find a reason to attack Meghan. At least now she doesn’t have to remain silent.

    • Bren says:

If this interview happens a year from now, I would agree with what’s the point. This interview is right after Meghan winning her lawsuit against the British media and the one-year anniversary of them stepping back from royal duty. The window of opportunity for this interview is small and now is the time. I also believe it will be a kick-off for Archwell while highlighting the good they have already done for multiple communities.

I’m glad they now have an opportunity to tell their side of the story because there has been plenty of palace sources, royal reporters, etc. explaining their actions and motives over the last four years.

      • L4frimaire says:

I’m a bit nervous that they agreed to do this, but at the same time, maybe it’s best to get it out of the way and move on. They will have a lot of work to do to get themselves established. They signed the deals and need to produce results. I think they will emphasize the future more than the past, and try to be somewhat conciliatory, because it looks better. I don’t think it will be a gripe fest, but there will be moments.

      • Bren says:

I understand why some people are nervous about the interview. Those of us who support Harry and Meghan don’t want to see them endure more vitriol from the British media as a result of this interview. But we all know with or without this interview, the royal reporters will continue to obsess over Harry and Meghan while ignoring or putting minimal effort into reporting on the royals that still supposedly matter. I believe this interview is where Harry and Meghan speak their peace publicly for the final time and then they will pivot to their philanthropy going forward.

      • one of the Marys says:

I hope I’m replying in the correct thread. I understand having some apprehension of the interview, that it could backfire. Things are so fraught I think the fear is they will cross a line they can’t come back from, especially regards to family relations. Think of Diana saying she doubted Charles will ever be king or there’s three in this marriage or Charles admitting to infidelity. There’s a lot of potential for hurt

  33. Jessie says:

Since the BRF’s whole purpose is performative Truman Show BS I wouldn’t be surprised if Philip’s hospital stay was a calculated move in order to garner sympathy and deflect from the inevitable criticism coming their way on March 7th.

    • Jaded says:

PP may be many things but I doubt, at 99 years old and in frail condition, that he’d put up with a faked illness and being hospitalized for no good reason. He has no more f*cks to give.

      • Nyro says:

He’s spent his marriage eating only what his wife eats for dinner, only being able to eat for his own pleasure if she wasn’t dining with him. If she and the men in grey tell him that he has to pull a stunt for their reality show, he’ll do it. He has no say.

    • Jaded says:

@Nyro – How do you come by this insider knowledge? He’s a notoriously stubborn man who took up flying, yacht racing and other sports without the Queen’s permission. And although he’s had to kowtow to his wife in his official position, he doesn’t do what the grey men tell him to, he’s always gone rogue, sometimes to his own detriment. Furthermore no hospital would admit him into a serious heart care institution without good reason, it’s not a cover for carrying out royal stunts. I doubt he gives a fig about the Oprah interview and, according to Harry, he Zooms regularly with him, Meghan and Archie.

      • Nyro says:

A royal chef said so. When they were living together, he had to eat whatever she chose for them to eat.

      • Jaded says:

@Nyro – A royal chef’s tittle-tattle has nothing to do with Philip’s hospitalization, or if it’s a mere cover-up to detract from or place blame for PP’s illness on Meghan and Harry. Believe me, hospitals do not take part in elaborate schemes to shame Meghan and Harry considering how over-crowded they are these days dealing with more serious issues like a pandemic. Honestly….read this instead — PP loves to cook: https://ca.hellomagazine.com/cuisine/2020052190222/prince-philip-daily-diet-revealed/

      • Elizabeth says:

Philip has definitely been a rogue and done his own thing in many ways, though less so as he got older I would say. But Nyro is right, there was an article where Darren McGrady, a chef for fifteen years for the queen, said specifically that when they ate together everything was as the queen wanted it without regard to anyone else’s taste. For example Philip loved garlic and spices and the queen did not. He said Philip was adventurous and a foodie whereas the queen was very much not. He even called their family holiday traditional meals “boring” at one point lol. I completely buy that! They ARE boring. Philip is the queen’s liege man of life and limb. He has run around but only insofar as allowed to. With that said I also seriously doubt the hospital or family is faking Philip being ill. It’s just he’s 99.

  34. Chelsea says:

I do not expect either of them to say anything negative about members of the family outdide of saying they didnt have support but they might go after the courtiers. I think the palace really stepped in it by getting involved in the Daily Mail’s case with some of them(ie Jason) even allowing his name to be used. Birth certificate-gate and wreathgate probably also didnt help. The courtiers have been for years running to the press to say how much they hate Meghan even revealing cruel nicknames they had for her while she was pregnant with Archie! But if they’re willing to put it on record in court documents that they are working against Meghan theyre pretty much asking to get flayed. I don’t see how Oprah doesnt ask about Meghan’s assertion in legal docs that she was unprotected by the institution and that her friends were told not to publicly defend her or how she felt when she saw that Jason, who is STILL leading the Royal Foundation, was helping the Daily Mail’s legal team.

Will be interesting if some of Harry’s unresolved legal cases come up as well(he is suing over wiretapping of himself, his friends and his mother and also claimed that a whistle-blower said Dan Wootton was paying for exclusives back in 2019 from the boyfriend of then KP Comms Director Christian Jones who just so happened to leave the royal household last month).

    • Midnight@theOasis says:

Agreed. If you read through the court documents you’ll see that Meghan has already stated she wasn’t allowed to defend herself and was unsupported by the institution. They’ll discuss what’s really already a matter of public record cause it’s all in the court documents. H&M won’t go scorched earth against the Royal Family (though there may be some shade). They’re gunning for the courtiers and the British media…..guns ablazing.
      .

    • windyriver says:

Speaking of court cases, tomorrow is March 2 – isn’t something supposed to happen re: Meghan’s successful DM suit? Deadline for whether Jason, etc. want to file as part owners of the copyright for Meghan’s letter, and consideration of damages? Has the DM decided to appeal?

Between that, Philip, and the Oprah interview, should be a busy week for the media.

    • L4frimaire says:

I hope they reference the court documents and the timing of so much of those nasty articles printed, especially when she was pregnant. I don’t think they’ll say anything that can’t be backed up legally. The royal family seemed so intent on punishments but didn’t give them any incentive to not talk. They can’t look like they have a grunge to settle however, and regardless of what is said, there will be backlash. I’m curious about the timing, like why exactly a year after their last official appearance, and whether they’re emotionally ready, before things more settled. We tend, as a society, to go easier on the bullies, and harder on those who speak out, especially on those we perceive as privileged.

  35. Yoyo says:

In one of the clips, Oprah acted shocked and said this is serious, could it be that Meghan said her father didn’t have a heart attack, and named where he was hiding out.
An Australian TV show, said Oprah asked for clips of Samantha appearances, hope they don’t give her much air.
The Spectator did a review of scammy’s book, it was hilarious, they think she is mental and hated Meghan before she was born, check out the review.

  36. aquarius64 says:

The BM is throwing a fit because it’s easy to get a screen capture of their nasty articles and tweets and they are afraid their slams will be used as People’s Exhibits A, B and C during a primetime US broadcast. They can claim positive press all they want, the hit pieces outnumber them and it has been proven. They are also afraid of being name checked especially Piers Morgan.

The Markles better sweat too. I bet they come for Samantha and Bad Dad.

    • booboocita says:

I would LOVE to see Meghan make a few tart remarks about Scammy, but I doubt she will. Why give that toxic b*tch any airtime? At the most, I’m guessing Meghan will pull a Mariah Carey and say something to the effect of, “I don’t know her.” Which, come to think of it, will be a better burn than anything else could possibly be.

  37. Joy says:

I wonder if H and M, like most of us, believe that his own family not only ALLOWED this bs but also fed stories to the media. Like they didn’t stand idly by and allow the attack. They PARTICIPATED.

    • Jaded says:

It’s clear that Willileaks and Ma Midds were leaking biased tidbits like a broken sieve all along.

  38. Nyro says:

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here! I gotta plan my snacks, folks. I’m thinking buffalo wings, guacamole & tortilla chips, and then a cheesecake with strawberry topping.

Baby! When I first saw the teaser with Diana, I got chills. I don’t care if they air out the royals by name. The don’t have to. He clearly said Charles isn’t shit and left Diana to battle on her own. Harry has clearly mastered the art of shade.

I love that the teasers were so dramatic because I know the establishment, including his family, won’t get an minute of sleep at all this week.

    • L84Tea says:

It was already starting last night, which was like 3am for them. They were already losing their minds on twitter…at 3am! The BM is clearly nervous and hysterically trying to back pedal. I’m really hoping the worst of them will get called out by name.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Nyro & L84Tea, I find the BM pretty entertaining. When Gail came out with those statements, I sat back to watch. I think Oprah did that deliberately to get the BM going full force. Then she’ll use it against them. They are proving H&M’s point. I bet Gail really enjoyed coming out with those statements.

I agree that they should get their story out. They need to and I think they can do it now and then move on. They want to get the facts out there. They also know that it won’t matter what they say, the BM are going to be vicious. That will just tell on the BM and the world will be watching. I realize that there are people in the UK that believes everything that they read or hear, but the world doesn’t care about the BM. I think the legitimate American media will not spend a lot of time on that part, but will lean hard on all of the things they will be doing through Archwell going forward. Because that’s where the story really is.

    • booboocita says:

I’ve been eating keto for a couple of months. I’ve lost 20 pounds, my blood glucose is down, and I feel great. For this occasion, I have a bread-free charcuterie board planned: Stilton, Manchego, dry coppa, salami, prosciutto, olives, the works. No alcohol, but San Pellegrino will do fine. I fully expect this interview to be EPIC.

  39. I pray that the interview will have a favorable result for Meghan and Prince Harry. Just like the favorable reviews Harry got for the Corden interview. I pray that they made the right decision to give this Oprah interview a go. If this interview was for them to relaunch themselves (the Sussex rebranding) to the world, I hope and pray this interview helps them achieve their objectives successfully. I also pray that Prince Philip’s “health” doesn’t get in the way of the timing of this interview. Good luck and all the best to Prince Harry and Meghan. Cheering for you both !

    • Carmen-Jamrock says:

@Marivic Olleb…..I pray that all your well-wishes for H&M are made manifest. I agree with everything u said.

  40. bamaborn says:

Saw a headline in one of US mags with title, “Update on Phillip’s condition.” Thought, surely these people are not going to drone on about this poor fella for the next 2 weeks? Then, next thought…they probably will. Pathetic.

  41. Merricat says:

Let the chips fall where they may.

  42. aquarius64 says:

A lot of people thought Meghan suing the Fail was a bad idea but she won in the end. Let them get their truth out. The Sussexes know they won’t change minds

    • Nyro says:

They said it was a lose/lose for her. If she won, people would still hate her and see her as a privileged whiner. Well, she won and her winning that case is what really started to turn the tide for her and Harry. Her abusers in the media started getting real pushback from non-squaddies for the first time and it hasn’t let up. People love predicting doom and gloom for Meghan though.

      • Bren says:

Yep, and it’s unfortunate. Many people continue to look for Meghan to have her ultimate comeuppance for daring to marry Harry. This doom and gloom will never end because Meghan’s skeptics, haters (they’re all the same) live and breathe for her downfall one way or another. Specifically, they want Harry to divorce her, royal titles stripped, and then shame her into hiding for the rest of her natural life. They have been predicting her humiliation and dismissal since day one. The obsession is real.

  43. L4frimaire says:

I’m reserving judgement because I can’t anticipate what will be said but the reactions will be intense. They’re going nuts and only heard one clip. As noted,it is wide ranging and Americans like to frame things positively and having come through to the other side. Not really liking that dress she’s wearing. It’s too dark, designer and drapy. Would have preferred something less formal. I don’t think it will be scorched earth, it will be some pointed jabs.

  44. Liz Borden says:

This may sound morbid, or just sick….But I bet Prince Phillip takes a turn for the worst..Or he crosses over about Thursday or Friday. Which might delay interview, on which case they can reschedule at a later date..Nothing will stop the truth from coming out. At any rate H&M need get this interview out before the Queen falls I’ll…She won’t last too much longer after Phil goes, my sick prediction he won’t last thru the week…JMO

  45. Sori says:

So ready for this! Meghan’s makeup looks amazing, and I like the dress. But the first time I saw it on my phone, it looked like a giant bird had pooped on her shoulder.

  46. MsIam says:

I can’t wait! I think Meg looks so elegant and regal. I wonder if we will see Doria and Archie too? As others have said, everyone and their mother has gotten a chance to spout off an opinion on Harry and Meghan, some of them making a boat load of money from it. But somehow, Harry and Meghan speaking their own side is wrong? FOH with that nonsense, this is not the 1800s. This is the Sussexes “I said what I said” moment and I’m here for it!

    • Nyro says:

Exactly. I see the switchout in real time.

    • booboocita says:

My thoughts about Meghan exactly. I know PWBT and Ofwilliam will be watching, and I just want to phone Kate and yell, “You see this? See? THIS is how you do ‘regal!’ Not pussy bows and buttons!”

  47. Beach Dreams says:

I’m excited for this interview simply because I think it will give Meghan a sense of catharsis. She may not be able or inclined to say *everything* that happened for a long time (if ever), but at least she’ll be able to tell HER story. Everyone and their mother has freely run their mouths for the past four years, and yet it’s a problem when the subject wants to speak for herself? It doesn’t work that way.

As for the potential reactions, it is what it is. This interview will not change the minds of those of us who support her, nor will it change the minds of delusional detractors who will find any reason to attack her. The RRs foolishly keep centering the UK in this, when it’s beyond obvious that they are not the audience. People will react how they choose to, but at least Meghan and Harry will have their perspective properly represented.

  48. J&A’s Mom says:

This just reinforces what I’ve thought for the last 2 yrs (even though I don’t like speculating about anyone’s mental health) — that things were really, really bad and Meghan may have been severely depressed. Just based on things Harry has said, it sounds like he was terrified he would either lose his marriage or his wife. How awful. And to see people still going after her after all that’s happened, it’s sickening.

  49. Q says:

People said they shouldn’t sue because no way would they win against the daily fail but they did.
I think people should give them credit. They know better than any one of us what works for them.
People think they’re experts because they sit behind a computer or phone and think they can tell what harry or meghan should do. They’re grown adults.
Stop the fake concern trolling, the British media will always have their knives out so what? Harry and meg aren’t trying to change anyone’s minds, they want the truth out so in years to come when books and movies are made about them people won’t be stuck with ONE narrative.
It’s smart of them to do this interview.

    • MerryGirl says:

+100, couldn’t have said it better myself. For the past 4 years, ever since the world discovered that Harry was dating Meghan, the negative press, the racism both overt and dog whistling, the building and perpetuating a false and hateful narrative of this woman is all we heard – ONE SIDE only.

She was not allowed to speak up or defend herself while a whole country backed by the might of the Royal Family and their right wing press attacked her. Hundreds and thousands of negative stories were written about her, every op-ed was slanted against her, every talk show host and their guests or callers attacking her, hate channels & blogs spouting up overnight all slandering her. It’s a miracle she survived this onslaught.

I don’t care what the reaction will be post this interview because if the UK response today is any indication, she was never going to get any peace in that shit island that protects cheaters and pedophiles over people of colour so she may as well get HER SIDE OF THE STORY out. Once it’s out, like ‘Diana in her own words’ there will be a record and a reference to go to for her side of the story because it’s there for posterity.

  50. aquarius64 says:

Tommorow March 2 is Judgment Day. Meghan learns how much in damages her charity gets from the lawsuit.

  51. Over it says:

Meghan is absolutely stunning. I love how this man loves his wife.

  52. Nyro says:

You know what’s funny? When a black woman, after being silenced and abused by the most powerful entities in Britain for four years straight, decides to defend herself, suddenly people think it’s a bad idea, or it’s foolish because nothing’s going to change, or things will just get worse, or why can’t they just move on and not address it, etc. It was all good for some gossip and a kiki when she was getting beaten up and victimized but now that she’s ready to stand in her power and let the world know about what she endured, now here comes the doubt and the “hold on there now” resevations. I’m just saying, we see y’all.

And no, this won’t be the “disaster” y’all are proclaiming it will be. Keep underestimating black women though.

    • Vanessa says:

I wished we had a like button you’re comment is spot on with the whole well this isn’t a good crowd when black people wanted to speak out against the racist we endured suddenly it’s not ok .

      • Nyro says:

Always here for black women’s pain but not for her triumph. It feels good to empathize with a black woman experiencing racial abuse, you know, “right side of history” and all. But some start to feel funny when that black woman decides she’s going to hold white folks to account for what they did to her. Then you start hearing about how it’s a bad idea or how she needs to let this go, etc.

    • Nlopez says:

      I agree with NYRO! Speak your truth H & M. KARMA. is a b#t*h!

    • Bren says:

Agreed, I wish there was a like button too. I would’ve liked the hell out of Nyro’s comment.

The constant need to police Meghan drives me absolutely crazy. The policing is never about Meghan, it’s about her having to minimize herself to protect the feelings of others.

    • Div says:

I’m Black. I do think it’s a bad idea if ALL she says is the press was terrible (without delving into the systematic racism) and messed with her mental health. People know the press was terrible and she and Harry have said it multiple times. Like it or not, most of the public will just see it as nothing new or rich people complaining (which isn’t fair, but reality).

I do think it’s a great idea if she specifically goes in and calls out the systematic racism in the press, provides examples, and calls out the royal family. People will still complain, esp. racists, but it will make a massive difference imo.

      • Nyro says:

When has Meghan ever not presented her experiences in a larger context? When she wrote about her miscarriage, did she make it all about herself? When are people going to give Meghan credit for who she actually is and what she actually does?

    • Le4Frimaire says:

Saw someone tweet this quote “If you are silent about your pain, they’ll kill you and say you enjoyed it” -‘Zora Neale Hurston. As some have pointed out, my main hesitation is that this will inflict further harm on the couple and that they’ll be blamed for eternity for every issue with the BRF going forward. But then they are blamed already. If it wasn’t this, it would be something else. I feel they have been very prudent since they left for the most part. I’ll say this about the Royal family. They could have handled this better from the start and they chose not to. They were so afraid of being eclipsed or having the spotlight on “ a minor royal and outsider” for a few years, that they were more than ready to blow it up.They refused to adapt to the 24 news cycle, assumed them using the press for propaganda could be contained to suit them. How are they going to control this beast now? Their lesson from Diana was don’t let it drag on fir 10 years, but get rid of the “usurper” immediately. That’s what they thought they should do. They trot out Philip’s health, but they decided to use this last year to escalate and ramp up the attacks, despite the age and frailty of the monarch, and a pandemic. I’m just disgusted with that whole media swarm over there.

    • LaraW" says:

I think the racism at the palace was much, much worse than we’ve imagined. Others have talked on this site about the casual racism they’ve faced while visiting or living in the UK and how it’s simply not discussed or not recognized. There are so many different factors that played into the media campaign against her, but I think that since everyone on this site universally agrees that racism played an enormous role, we’ve forgotten how it must have manifested in the visceral, day to day realities that Meghan faced.

We all know that the RR takes its cues and information from the RF. If someone in the media felt it was completely fine to compare Archie to a chimpanzee, I cannot imagine what was being said and done in the palace itself. What we’ve been seeing is only what’s been said or printed. How much worse were all the things that never made it to DM headlines at all?

If there are any revelations about the monarchy, I think it will be about how deep and entrenched and blatant the racism is. So far we’ve only heard the media, who’ve flatly denied being racist while writing racist stories. And the media circus has gotten so complicated and convoluted (leaving the UK, paying for Frogmore, the Netflix and Spotify deals, the lawsuit, the wreath and titles and patronages, on and on) that the origins– stories like “Straight Outta Compton”– have been buried.

Even if Philip dies, there are some things that cannot be unseen and unsaid– and laying bare the racism that goes down to the foundations of the institution is one of those things.

  53. Petra says:

WOOZER! I trust Oprah. Auntie O will not put this out if it will hurt or cause more harm to Meghan and Harry. As @Nyro once stated, this is the reclaiming of one of our people. I didn’t plan on watching this live, now I will but with a brown paper bag by my side to help me breath.

I know people are saying this will not change the treatment of Harry and Meghan. I really don’t think Meghan and Harry are doing this to change minds. This is their primal scream. Their vomiting of 5 years of swallowing poisons. Harry and Meghan deserve this cleanse.

    • Amy Too says:

I also think a lot of it is they’re doing it so that it’s easier for other people to do it in the future. It just takes one person to be brave enough to say the first thing and then a deluge of people stand up behind them and say “me too, that happened to me but I was too scared to say something,” or “I noticed that happening but never spoke out before because I just thought that’s how it is and everyone was okay playing by those rules.” They’re calling out the racism and the sexism and xenophobia of the press and the institutions the press protects so that the press and those institutions know that there is someone out there who isn’t afraid to say “you’re doing this to me and it’s not okay and I’m going to tell people you’re doing this to me.” Even if they don’t change minds, even if the media writes more bad stories about them, this narrative will be out there. A conversation will be started that will hopefully change society, media, and celebrity coverage culture for the better. Or at least add to the momentum so that when the next person talks, there will be a pattern of abuse to look back on and refer to. People have been hounded literally to death by the British tabloid press. Harry is in a unique position, he’s seen it happen to TWO people in his life: the two women he loves most, his mom and his wife. Not a lot was said the first time when Diana died, and it happened again with Meghan. They don’t want this to happen to anyone else again. So they’re going to call it out. And in this moment, with Me Too and BLM and social media amplifying activism, maybe it will be heard louder and maybe a change will be made.

This interview isn’t just personal PR for themselves. It’s activism.

      • lanne says:

Meghan and Harry are doing important work for the royal family, even though the royals are too myopic and stupid to see it. They are providing a potential path forward and a lifeline for spares of the future. There will be a reckoning over how Meghan was treated—whether it’s after this interview or in 20 years. This reckoning will hopefully ease the way for Charlotte and Louis. if prince Harry’s experiences teach us anything, it’s that the role of the spare in the 21st century is brutal. You will be used by the family to prop up the heir. As a girl, Charlotte will be scrutinized in ways that will be unbearable. Her awkward years, her appearance, her manners, her interests, her relationships will be inspected with a microscope. Louis will probably be put in the same box as Harry—a lovable dim bulb whose escapades provide humor for the masses. No matter the truth, this is how he’ll be characterized. Harry’s crime, and meghans, is refusing to play their assigned roles. That’s worse than influence peddling, worse than charity scamming, worse than pedophilia. If the Cambridge spares refuse to play by the rules, they will be treated just like Harry. They will be owned by the media in the same way Harry was owned. The media will believe they have the right to determine who they befriend, date, what interests they may pursue. No wealth or tiaras is worth that. On top of that, they likely have a rage monster of a father and a mother who’s more concerned with how things look than how things are. A reckoning over the Sussexes treatment ultimately benefits the Cambridge kids. Maybe they will be allowed to determine their own futures. The royal family is a toxic waste dump.

  54. mlouise says:

    Oprah is trustworthy and she
‘gets it’, she is no Diane Sawyer. She will not aim at ‘asking the tough questions people (as in Daily Mail readers) want to ask)’ but rather ask questions to understands the facts. This is reassuring, enough with Diane Sawyer’s ast interviews of women where she was playing the role of the ‘messenger’ with her mean questions and refusal to take the answers provided by women she interviewed as reliable

    • IMARA219 says:

This is an interesting read of Sawyer vs. Oprah interview styles. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone give this dissection before.

    • Nyro says:

Yep. Diane’s a patriarchal princess who thinks she’s a feminist. Trying to prove how worthy she is of her position in a makes dominated field by beating up other women. The “I’m not a woman, I’m a news anchor” type. Which is fine until you notice she never tries to humiliate the men she interviews. Her Britney and Whitney interviews are embarrassing.

    • Nic919 says:

Diane Sawyer worked for Nixon and that tells you where she started.

  55. Delphine says:

I think Meghan’s eye makeup says it all:

Show that you’re feeling feisty and free without telling me you’re feeling feisty and free.

  56. Bea says:

Very excited to see the press blowback at the firm. I know Harry and Meghan will get more negative coverage, but as an anti-monarchist, I’m looking forward to people who are uninvested seeing the truth about Charles, William et al. Seeing them stand up for themselves makes me feel hopeful that we can affect some changes in the near future.

    • Nyro says:

The response from the general public will be The Crown season 4 on steriods.

      • Bea says:

I hope so. I wish more people would suspend whatever personal feelings and loyalties they have for a moment and see that this is a ruthless and emotionally abusive family that will kick their own blood to the curb to retain power. I always tell my coworkers if any of your friends were in this situation, you would obviously take their side, people just want to be cruel.

      • Nyro says:

A lot of it is just bitterness and jealousy. They feel like she should have been grateful she was “allowed” to marry into that family. Because her haters would put up with any and everything for a chance to wear a tiara and live in a cottage for free. Meghan knew she deserved better and could do better, so she didn’t have to put up with the abuse. They don’t like that Harry walked away from it all for her because they’re with men who’d throw them under the bus for a Klondike bar. They don’t like that she has the nerve and the strength to stand up to the establishment and win. These people look at her and it makes them realize how cheap they are and how weak they are. So they root for the crown instead of the person it’s trying to crush.

  57. IMARA219 says:

Someone above said this is their Super Bowl and YASSS. I 2nd that. No one else in my immediate life cares about this stuff, so I am bursting at the seams in anticipation. We are returning to face-to-face teaching on Monday but my life highlight will be digesting this interview.

  58. Jezebel's Lacefront says:

I’m here for it and support them to the fullest.

  59. MMadison says:

ONLY guilty people react to something that hasn’t happened yet in this manner. The British Press and the RF are besides themselves for a reason.

  60. MMadison says:

We are going to learn a lot about how the world views racism. The perfect couple to put the world to the test…..was it racist or not??

  61. jeanie says:

why does everyone (including harry) act like he is diana’s only son and the only one who was affected by her death??

    • Beth says:

Because things affect people differently. And kate never went through what Meghan has endured. Didn’t william say he didn’t want to witness what happened to his mum when he and kate sued the paper that published topless images of kate ? Either you have selective amnesia or you’re not well informed.

    • L4frimaire says:

Because Harry and his family are the ones being treated the way Diana was and being ostracized from within the family. People see the parallels. Williams reaction seems to be to cling more tightly to the establishment and keep everything on lock, although he is not above leaking and having the same insecurities as his father. Siblings can go through two very different experiences in the same family, especially when one is so favored over the other due to birth circumstances. I don’t think Harry ever thought he would be in this position and hounded by the press the way his mother was. The other son is protected. Meanwhile, Charles seems completely checked out and it’s all a mess. This started long before the Sussexes left.

    • MsIam says:

There is nothing to stop William from expressing how he feels or doesn’t feel for that matter. But just because he chooses to keep things bottled up doesn’t mean Harry must do the same. That is textbook toxic right there, making everyone pretend to go along to get along.

    • ennie says:

Some children repeat the hurtful actions of their parents, while others bounce on the opposite way. William, as a protected heir is bound to belong, while the spare is set as the whipping boy without options.

      • Greywacke says:

This white woman agrees. I was and sadly continue to be so effin ignorant about how subtle racism. I am nervous for H&M too. Until this thread, I didn’t realize that train of thought continues to victimize the victims. and that reveals my own racism though unintended. weaknesses. H&M will never regret revealing the truth, and Meghan especially deserves her day. We need to stop silencing Black women.

    • Tessa says:

William is less and less like his mother as the years go on. Lacey talked about the “lunches” he had with the Queen. He seems to lack Harry’s warmth.

    • GGRosebud says:

Thank you! That is what I have been thinking.

    • Si3rra says:

William is also traumatized but he isn’t allowed to talk like Harry since he left the Royals.

      • L4frimaire says:

All William does is talk and leak, usually about how incandescent with rage he is and how his spotlight is stolen, and how he can’t put his arm around his brother anymore, though no one remembers when he ever did.

      • Keri says:

William was traumatized too, I agree. But he’s also talked plenty about Diana, which is his right as her son.

But the two situations are vastly different. William seems to talk about Diana every time people begin to notice he and his lazy wife refuse to work and when he needs sympathy from the public to distract from his affairs. How sad it is it that all the senior royals consistently beat him and lazy Kate at royal work? You’d think being traumatized with what happened with Diana, he’d be more self-aware of his own actions toward his brother and Meghan, but that would require this incandescent, spoiled man-child to act human and have empathy, which is apparently asking too much of him.

We are seeing in real time Meghan getting the exact same treatment from the royal family and the press that Diana received but with racism added to the mix. Of course Harry’s going to talk about the parallels. You’d have to be a blind person or willfully ignorant not to see it.

  62. Yoyo says:

    You miss the bus.

  63. Lilly (with the double-L) says:

Likely this is a trifling thought, but I would love for some of this truth-telling and work done, and to be done, by H&M will get rid of the marry a prince trope. Like all the Hallmark movies, which, yes, I do watch during these pandemic times, I’m thinking “how many frikken made up countries and white princes can they keep making up!?!” Also, “why should women aspire to this?” I’d love our girls and women know their power and lives of fulfillment, which could rarely, involve a prince, but not one to save you or a fairy tale. Although, I think it must be a fun job to think of new names for made up countries.

  64. Nic919 says:

A lot of great responses here. I think that ultimately Harry and Meghan need to speak directly to tell their story and while the UK media will attack them, they will look foolish doing so. What did they ever do wrong anyway? That’s the question that the UK media and establishment can’t even answer. Is it ok to attack a woman non stop like that did with her? Meghan’s great sin was not being a submissive white doormat and it will be very hard for the UK media (and some family members) to justify how they treated her. The world is much larger than the UK bubble, where the tabloids have printed hundred of thousands of stories to attack her. The rest of the world is going to wonder what the hell is wrong with the media and likely ask why the family that controls the media did nothing to protect her. And when you add the parallel to Diana and her tragic end… yeah that’s why the palaces are concerned.

    • Si3rra says:

Well I think they need to address all the racist shit they endured but it’s not the right timing. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, millions of people lost their jobs or even worse their lives and loved ones. Couldn’t they wait after the pandemic is over? This interview is going to backfire on them

      • Lanie says:

Racists are always telling people that now is not the right time to address racism. It’s their favorite sport.

      • Sam says:

The royals complain about the Crown and brief against the Sussexes during the pandemic! They can address the racism they have faced. Much better topic than complaining that Netflix should come with a warning…

      • Ann says:

There is always something happening that is supposed to stop people from moving forward with their causes and stories. A war, an economic depression, now a pandemic. People can speak out AND help the larger community through crisis at the same time.

      • Petra says:

@Si3rra, Thanks for your concern of the interview backing firing on Meghan and Harry. When is the right timing? Hope you know Harry and Meghan are not in any countries government hence can personally solve Covid-19. Also, there have been serious issues in the world before Covid-19 and somehow people were able to watch, do and talk about frivolous things.

You’ve stated the possible negative outcome of the interview. I ask that you spend sometime in contemplation and try to come up with one positive outcome of the interview for Meghan and Harry. Once you have a positive answer, hold on tight to it and cherish it with all your might. You my friend is deeply appreciated.

  65. GGRosebud says:

I don’t think 20 months living in luxury “unsurvivable”. Its over-dramatic. That is not the right word to describe her circumstances in the palace. People dealing with no food in Africa: THAT is unsurvivable.

    • ennie says:

Well, rich people, famous people, apparently people who have it all commit suicide too. They are kind of trapped because Harry is who he is. They (H&M) are not actually THAT free, and that is on him. He still has options, tho, and we only have one life.

    • Jay says:

You do realize that generalizing Africa and Africans that way is hella racist right? Didn’t UNICEF have to feed children in Britain and arent there multiple cities in America without clean drinking water?

Also if multiple celebrity suicides have shown, it doesn’t matter how much money you have, you can still be suffering.

    • Lanie says:

That’s pretty short sighted. One bad thing doesn’t cancel another. Besides, you can always go in your pockets and solve world hunger. We’ll all wait for the receipts, sir or ma’am. Now try doing it with a large media demonizing you to the point where you get death threats and people wanting to stab your stomach to prove you’re not pregnant. All because they can’t keep their racism in check and because their only accomplishment in life is whiteness.

      Pipe down, Piers.

      • L4frimaire says:

Seriously?!These people have no issue with William moaning about his workload or how he’s incandescent with rage, but this is a problem? No problem hearing all the constant negative press about them, but everyone remembers the plight of the rest of the world if these two say they have any problems. There wouldn’t be an interview if there wasn’t any interest. People can walk and chew gum, and maybe see the machinations behind a taxpayer funded institution that weaponizes the press against individual members who don’t toe the line. All you see are bathrooms, but why the insistence to remove their security and strip them of any agency? I remember that no one cared when Mohammed Bin Salman put his rich family members under arrest at the Ritz in Riyadh for several weeks to show them who was in charge, but we sure paid attention when he had a journalist dismembered. Abuse of power is abuse of power, and ask yourself why the most powerful institution in the UK is freaked out about these two saying anything. Keep looking at designer dresses and sneering because powerful people are never threatened by others in their class who challenge them 🙄.

    • Si3rra says:

      @GGRosebud
      100% true

    • Sam says:

She is privileged. Both her and Harry have referenced that. That does not mean that what she went through was survivable mentally. To me you are implying the luxury was a trade off for the torment. Much like the BM does.

    • Petra says:

@GGRosebud, Thanks for picking Africa. Lets not forget those people in other countries dealing with no food, they all need help as well. And most of all, you matters too. Have a lovely day!

      • GGRosebud says:

Your welcome. Its a country they visited, which is why I wrote it for contextual purposes. However the country I picked was not chosen to denote racism, since my relatives are from Kenya. In my Opinion, Its a poor choice of a word to use, Its possible to have more than one opinion.

  66. Jayna says:

I saw one trailer, the one where Meghan doesn’t say anything in any of the camera shots. I thought the trailer was horrible, so Dr. Phil-like, a very Insider Edition type promo . I cringed watching it, the way they edited it. Having said that, I’m looking forward to the interviews with Harry and Meghan. Oprah usually does excellent interviews, and they can trust her. But they deserved a more professional trailer promoting the interview, not that.

But, wow, Meghan looks so beautiful.

  67. L4frimaire says:

Just have to say that even with all this noise, what the Archewell did for Int’l Women’s day is really awesome. Each section opens to a link to organizations to support, including the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre Meghan visited when she was in Canada. I hope they highlight this in the interview, because it’s really cool, and want more emphasis on them going foreword.

  68. @GGRosebud, you cannot invalidate the suffering of each person. You are just like one of those carnival of so-called royal experts who think they are God’s gift to the UK.

    • GGRosebud says:

Sorry “Petra”, I march to the beat of my own drum & don’t take orders from rando commenters on a site I have been reading every day for 9 years. You have your opinion, and I will continue to have mine. Have a great night.

  69. Yvonne40 says:

    Hi I’m new here.
I just wanted to make a prediction:

The day before the interview, they will announce Prince Philip’s death. I think he’s already on life-support and the firm is ready to use this to steal the thunder of Meghan and Harry. Nobody is going to talk about their interview in a good way.

  70. blunt talker says:

I hope Lady O show the picture of Archie only a few days old being called or compared to a monkey-If there is one thing a majority people can agree on-you just don’t smear an innocent child in the media-he was born only a day or two when this story was in the British media-Just imagine how hurt Harry and Meghan were when this appeared and noone called the press to not do this to an innocent child-I will never forget this attack on little Archie-NEVER!

  71. Over it says:

I am going to need someone to remind piss Morgan that no the coverage of Meghan didn’t only get negative after her wedding, it was there from the start with all the racist, sexist crap. These British media have a very selective memory. He needs to be shown old headlines. He just mad because he was one of the worst.
