REZONING has tipped Doubleview into Perth’s most-searched suburb for units, according to new figures.

The figures from Realestate.com.au show the suburb, about 12km north-west of the CBD, is one where demand outstrips supply for unit listings.

Perth iconic beach suburb Cottesloe in the western suburbs comes second on the unit list.

Leafy West Leederville tops the list for most-searched suburb for houses, followed by the perennially popular Shenton Park.

“In terms of houses, people are broadening their search,” said the website’s WA sales manager Emma Winterbourn.

“The days of saying ‘I only want to live in Subiaco’ are gone as prices and financial situations continually change, so people are happy to look at neighbouring suburbs like Shenton Park to find the perfect place.

“This is especially true at the moment as we’ve seen a dip in listings volume, so finding a place suitable to a buyers’ needs is even harder as there’s less to choose from.”

Jarrad O’Rourke of O’Rourke Realty said Doubleview’s unit push had paved the way for pent-up demand.

“Demand for units in Doubleview is due to the rezoning laws of multi-density dwellings,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“It’s only been about two years since they could build these types of developments in Doubleview and it’s opened it up to people who might not have been able to afford it otherwise.

“Doubleview gets its name from the ‘double view’ of the city and the ocean, which will always drive demand. There’s also three to four good high schools and a couple of primary schools in the area that are well regarded.”
