The Valkyrie (Deborah L. Davitt)
Featured Indie Book on Indie Author News: Fantasy/Science-Fiction The Valkyrie by Deborah L. Davitt.

The Valkyrie (The Saga of Edda-Earth) is alternate history that presents a wholly re-imagined world in which Rome never fell, magic and science have always coexisted, all the gods are real . . . and Ragnarok is coming.

The Book has been self-published via Amazon and is available as eBook and Paperback - 825 pages - released in October 2014.

About the Book

A hand-picked team of Roman Praetorian agents serves one man, Propraetor Antonius Livorus. Together, they pursue a great mystery. Prophecy suggests that the world is about to end. The gods seem to be making provisions against that day, including reviving the long-forbidden custom of human sacrifice.

How do they stop this, and how deep does the mystery go? Why does a dying man taunt them, asking if they know where their gods are? And why does prophecy suggest that a lone woman will be the sole survivor of Ragnarok?

Enter a world in which Rome never fell, magic and science co-exist, and all the gods are real. An alternate reality that goes beyond merely filing the serial numbers off of history. Enter the world of Edda-Earth.

Reviews (Excerpts)

- "[...]The Valkyrie is world-building at its highest level: as such, its readers shouldn't be ones looking for a light fantasy adventure, but those who root out the few Tolkien-like epics in the fantasy genre, there to live amongst gods, monsters, and brave adventurers who traverse a dangerous world with purpose, courage, and visions of creation, recreation, and change. " - D. Donovan

- "An excellent length, some excellent characters, and a really excellently crafted setting." - David Peters

- "What would happen if Rome never fell? If magic and the gods were real and took an interest in the lives of their followers? Ms. Davitt plays with these ideas and a wonderful world, full of gods and goddesses, mages and scientists, nobles and commoners and even a spirit or two. Mix in some international politics and a couple wars for flavor and you have Edda-Earth. For anyone that enjoys asking the "what if" question then I highly recommend this book.[...]" - Amazon Customer

- "It was a great fun to read. It is a long story with great characters and and really interesting world that makes sense. Its a mix of fantasy and alternative history. Each chapter starts with an article/piece over the world or the history. The more you learn the more interesting it gets. If you like history and fantasy or only fantasy books buy this. It has great characters, great combat scenes and an interesting magic and technology system. It was definitely the best book i read in this year.[...]" - Flavar (Amazon)

Author Deborah L. Davitt
Deborah L. Davitt was born at an Army hospital in Washington state in 1974, but spent the first twenty-two years of her life in Reno, Nevada. She graduated first in her class from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1997, with a BA in English Literature, followed by a master's degree in English from Penn State in 1999. She's taught rhetoric and composition at the college level, and been a technical writer in three different fields for the past fifteen years: nuclear ballistic missile submarines, NASA, and computer manufacturing.

After the notable fan-fiction novel Spirit of Redemption netted her 25,000 emails from around the world, and tired of waiting for agents to respond to queries, she published The Valkyrie to Kindle in 2014, and The Goddess Denied and The Goddess Embraced in 2015.

She wasn't expecting another novel to be in the series, but is currently working on a companion piece to the main series. She also has a poem that will appear in an upcoming issue of Star*Line.
