Derrick Henry doesn't like talking about the Heisman Trophy.
Like it or not, though, the buzz is growing. Alabama's running back emerged as the top candidate last week with a 210-yard win over LSU. His perceived lead grew Saturday with another 200-yard game paired with a second-straight subpar night from Leonard Fournette.
Losses and injuries plagued a few other betting favorites from last week. Here's a breakdown of the campaigns with the odds set last week.
Derrick Henry (RB Alabama) 3/2
-- Saturday: 22 carries, 204 yards, 2 touchdowns in win over Mississippi State. Broke touchdowns covering 74 and 65 yards as Tide won 31-6.
-- Season: 240 carries, 1,458 yards, 19 TDs. Henry ranks fourth nationally in average yards per game.
Leonard Fournette (RB LSU) 2/1
-- Saturday: 19 carries, 91 yards, 1 TD in 31-14 loss to Arkansas. The former front-runner had a long run of 13 yards a week after Alabama held him to 31 yards on 19 carries.
-- Season: 214 carries, 1,474 yards, 17 TDs. Fournette still leads the nation in total rushing yards and average yards per game.
Ezekiel Elliott (RB Ohio State) 7/1
-- Saturday: 27 carries, 181 yards, 2 TDs in 28-3 win over Illinois. It was Elliott's biggest game since running for 274 yards on 23 runs in an Oct. 3 win over Indiana.
-- Season: 220 carries, 1,425 yards, 16 TDs. The breakout star of OSU's national title run has run for at least101 yards every game this season.
Corey Coleman (WR Baylor) 8/1
-- Saturday: 3 catches, 51 yards, no TDs in 44-38 loss to Oklahoma. It was by far is fewest receiving yards he had all season after getting 85 in a win over Iowa State on Oct. 24.
-- Season: 61 catches, 1,229 yards, 20 TDs: The nation's leader in receiving yardage averages 20.2 yards a catch, but there's little room for error as a receiver in Heisman voting.
Deshaun Watson (QB Clemson) 8/1
-- Saturday: 34-for-47, 360 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT in 37-27 win at Syracuse. Clemson remained unbeaten in a closer-than-expected win in the Carrier Dome.
-- Season: 216-308, 23 TDs, 8 INTs. Watson has the nation's No. 4 completion percentage (70.1) and is No. 14 in QB rating (160.3)
Trevone Boykin (QB TCU) 16/1
-- Saturday: 5-for-8, 54 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT in a 23-17 win over Kansas. An injured right ankle limited his action in a tight win over winless Kansas. After the game, coach Gary Patterson said they hope he'll be back Saturday to play Oklahoma.
-- Season: 239-363, 3,427 yards, 29 TDs, 9 INT. Boykin is No. 6 nationally in yards per game (342.7) and is No. 6 in QB rating (166.5). A four-interception game last week in a loss to Oklahoma State severely injured his campaign.
Christian McCaffrey (RB Stanford) 16/1
-- Saturday: 33 carries, 147 yards, 1 TD; 5 catches, 42 yards in 38-36 loss to Oregon. Another big game, but a second Stanford loss hurts the Heisman hopes.
-- Season: 231 carries, 1,354 yards, 7 TDs; 33catches, 367 yards, 2 TDs. The son of former NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey is No. 9 in rushing average (135.4 yards per game).
