New TBS comedy.

Primetime roles, baby news, a Hallmark Christmas movie, a soapy spoof, and more are the highlights of this week’s column surrounding the careers of former actors of “All My Children,” “As the World Turns,” “Loving,” “Passions” and “The Edge of Night.” We also say a special goodbye to former “One Life to Live” actor Nathaniel Marston.

Meredith Hagner lands TBS comedy Search Party.
Meredith Hagner broke into the business in 2008 and played Liberty Ciccone on “As the World Turns” until 2010. She went on to appear in various primetime hits, including “Royal Pains” and “Men at Work” and made for television movies. Rainn Wilson chats with Kelly Ripa about his One Life to Live role.
Rainn Wilson played Dwight Schrute on “The Office” from 2005 to 2013 and most recently Everett Backstrom on “Backstrom.” However, his very first on-camera gig was playing Casey Keegan on “One Life to Live” in 1997. The actor sat down with “All My Children” alum Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan Santos) and Michael Strahan on “Live With Kelly and Michael” to talk about his daytime gig and described his character by saying, “I played a role as if they had written a role just for me, a homicidal stand-up comic.” Watch the video below to find out why Wilson’s Llanview character was out to kill Antonio Vega (Kamar de los Reyes) and relive some of the moments through past clips included!

Remembering Nathaniel Marston.
Last week soap opera alum Nathaniel Marston passed away due to injuries from a critical car accident. He was 40 years old. During this time of sadness, we want to reflect on the actor’s career and his forever place in daytime… Marston first turned up in soaps in 1998 as Eddie Silva on “As the World Turns,” a role he played until 1999. In 2001 he captured the hearts of many as Al Holden on “One Life to Live.” In September 2003 his character, who shared a great love with Marcie Walsh (Kathy Brier), passed away from complications due to a liver transplant but fans and Llanview hadn’t seen the last of Marston yet. In November of that same year, the show put a paranormal spin on the storyline and brought Marston back when Al’s spirit roamed Llanview and his soul entered the body of Michael McBain (then played by Richard Brandon Johnson), who died after taking the wrong medication. Though this was Al’s chance to be with Marcie, he was told by his stepmother Luna (Susan Batten) that he only had until Valentine’s Day to make Marcie recognize his true identity. When Marcie recognized her one true love, Al explained what had happened then in spirit form went to Heaven, leaving his soul behind in Michael – with neither recalling what had happened, only that they’d dated for the last couple of months. Marston held the role until 2007. In recent years, he guest-starred on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “White Collar,” “Castle,” “Blue Bloods” and played Tony in “Walk a Mile in my Pradas.” Marston’s family held a memorial service on Sunday November 15 at Bruno’s Country Club in Gerlach, Nevada. There’s another one set for Saturday December 5 at Salt Pond Beach in Hanapepe, Kauai at 12:00 PM. Soaps.com sends Marston’s family, friends and fans our deepest condolences. Here are tweets from some of his “One Life to Live” co-stars:

Bryan Cranston and Jimmy Kimmel in Suspended Suspense.
Veteran actor/soap alum Bryan Cranston joined funny man Jimmy Kimmel (“The Tonight Show”) and put on quite the show earlier this month in a performance of a ‘soap opera they claimed to have starred in together in the early 1990s’ titled “Suspended Suspense.” The men joked about how the soap was canceled after merely three episodes and how their characters brothers Garrison and Jamison Goldenweather were suspended feet off of the ground while having to deal with the drama that surrounded the illness and death of their rich father. Watch for yourself below! Cranston played Douglas Donovan on “Loving” in 1983, went on to appear as Dean Stella on “One Life to Live” in 1985 and will always be remembered as Hal on “Malcolm in the Middle” (2000 to 2006).
