Webinar Description:

This webinar will explore the suitability and applicability of online video mediation so it can be easily integrated and blended into the practice of experienced mediators for the benefit of their clients. 

Ewan Malcolm will facilitate an engaging and informative conversation with Tom Valenti and Giuseppe Leone which will consider the keystones of good practice in the use of the technology. Concerns from the client and practitioners perspective will be discussed, giving pointers from many spheres of mediation including commercial, workplace, family and  elder.

Presenter Bios:

Rahim Shamji – Director of Education, Training and International Projects at ADR Group Ltd, UK

Rahim Shamji is the Director of Education and Training at ADR Group.  He is a barrister and has been a Senior Law Lecturer at BPP Law School, London. Rahim is the Vice-President of Overseas for the International Academy of Dispute Resolution based in Chicago and is also a board member of the National Conciliation and Arbitration Board for the UK.

Rahim qualified as an accredited mediator in 2005. Since then he has conducted over 250 mediations and trained hundreds of mediators internationally.  Rahim is ADR Groups lead trainer and delivers between 6-10 accreditation programmes per annum in addition to advocacy and advanced mediation courses. Rahim specialises in Civil & Commercial mediations and has undertaken mediation training in Europe, East Africa, Middle East, Pakistan and North America.

N.B. ADR Group may add or substitute with other internationally qualified trainers, depending on delegate numbers. 

Giuseppe Leone

- Mediator of workplace and commercial cases since 1997.

- Founder of Virtual Mediation Lab, an online mediation project to help mediators around the world:

 Practice and sharpen their mediation skills online, by participating in Free simulations of family, commercial and workplace cases with other mediators and a Coach.

 Learn in 2-hours how to mediate online and add online mediation to their practice.

Virtual Mediation Lab was featured in the Summer 2013 issue on “Innovation and Conflict Resolution” of ACResolution, the quarterly magazine of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

- Certified Mediator for the United States Postal Service (USPS) to resolve workplace conflicts (discrimination, harassment, supervisor vs employee disputes). On January 9, 2014, Giuseppe mediated the first USPS online mediation of their nationwide REDRESS conflict resolution.

- Team Member of "Online Peer Mediation Platform", an innovative ACR Education Section project made possible by a 2-year JAMS Foundation grant to help students from ages 10 to 18:

 Learn how to become peer mediator.

 Practice their mediation skills online with the assistance of qualified mentors.

 Offer online peer mediation services.

Ewan Malcolm

Ewan Malcolm is an experienced Chief Officer, mediator, trainer and lawyer who has worked around the United Kingdom and internationally. As a leader and a well-respected practitioner, he has a career-long commitment to providing excellent services for those experiencing relationship problems. His collaborative and pragmatic approach is always with an eye to economic sustainability.

Ewan practiced a lawyer, qualifying in 1985 and as a partner with a Scottish law firm from 1989 to 2003. He first trained as a commercial mediator in 1995, as a family mediator the following year, as a community mediator in 1999 and then as an Additional Support for Learning (ASL/SEN) mediator. He was accredited as a mediator by the New York State Court System in 2012.

He specialises as a mediator in assisting parties to resolve complex conflict disputes where relationships are important. Ewan has presented training across the UK and is Director of Training for CALM www.calmscotland.co.uk  the association of Family Law Mediators accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and sits on the Law Society of Scotland’s accreditation panel. He is one of the few people in the country to hold an S/NVQ Level 4 in mediation.

Ewan was named at the Law Awards of Scotland 2008 their first ever Mediator of the Year.  He is the co-editor of A Guide to Mediating in Scotland (Dundee University Press ISBN 978-1-84586-052-3).

Ewan established the Scottish Mediation Network in 2002 www.scottishmediation.org.uk and was its Executive Director until 2009 when he transferred his practice to London. He served at Secretary of the European Mediation Network Initiative and organised the European Mediation Conference in Belfast in 2008. He graduated from the University of London Masters program in Conflict Resolution and Mediation, with distinction, in 2011.

He lived from 2011 for two years in New York City where he was recruited as an expert consult to reorganise the Manhattan Civil Court mediation service. Since 2013 Ewan has been the Chief Executive of Relate London North East, a not for profit organisation supporting healthy relationships by providing counselling, mediation and training. He serves on the boards of the Family Mediation Council and the College of Mediators. 

Thomas Valenti

Thomas P. Valenti is an attorney, mediator, arbitrator facilitator and trainer. He has been extensively trained in all aspects of Dispute Resolution. Tom is a former Board Member of Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI]. He was Co-Leader of the Athens Migration Dialogue Project. Mr. Valenti was also involved with the Middle East Peace Initiative working with an Israeli Jewish and Palestinian peace village, Neve Shalom Wahat Al Salam (NSWAS) and its Pluralistic Spirituality Center Project. Tom has an interest in understanding the issues raised with cross-cultural disputes. This interest is also enhanced by his work with The International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR), which is a charitable organization set up to further the interest of mediation amongst law students globally. In this role Tom has travelled to the UK, Dubai, India and Europe to deliver trainings. He is also on the International Training Faculty of ADRGroup UK, London. His other experience includes:
