Dublin Airport passenger numbers up 14% to 2.3 million

More than 2.3 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in September, a 14 per cent increase on the same month last year and a record for the hub.

The overall number of people who travelled through the airport in the first nine months of this year was up 15 per cent at 19.2 million.

A statement said the increase last month made it the busiest September in the airport’s 75-year history.

Passengers numbers on continental European routes grew 14 per cent to just over 1.2 million.

About 750,000 people travelled between Dublin and UK destinations in September, which was also a 14 per cent increase.

Transatlantic traffic increased by 16 per cent, with almost 275,000 people travelling on routes to North America, the airport said.

About 68,000 passengers travelled to the Middle East and North Africa, 14 per cent more than September 2014.

The number of passengers taking domestic flights grew by 21 per cent, with 8,000 people travelling on those routes.

Dublin Airport said that more than 2.5 million extra passengers have travelled through there so far this year.
