Good story, but finding it hard to let go. To me there was a lot of open situations that where unresolved. Like what happens with Lauren at the hospital, does Elijah g back to music? The things like drive crazy when they're not answered.
I received Drift as a review copy from the author/publisher (via InstaFreebie). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. Wow! What a great read. Very interesting, intriguing characters and a fast-paced, well-conceived plot. The writer has a way of setting a scene with great description and dialog. Eli and Lauren have riveting chemistry, and the conflicts are layered and believable. The last chapters felt rushed to conclude the story, but I loved the read enough I'll be checking out more books by Mann.
When did things go so wrong? How do you make them right? One man on a path of destruction gets a wake-up call but at what cost? On a journey of discovery and redemption, he finds his heart. The emotionally strong story, one you don't want to put down or miss reading. On my re-read list already and highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy as part of a newsletter promotion.
Elijah's life is a mess and he needs to break away from it! Lauren is also hiding from her past! When the two meet can the sparks mend their broken selves? Well written with plenty of intense emotions dealt with in an adult fashion! I like how this author makes her characters face up to their problems head on! This story is much better that it would first appear!
Drift is Elijah's story, sort of. The thing with Elijah is, at the first part of the book, you have to remember what he was like in the previous books where he shows up (especially Tasha and Luke's) versus what he is now. There is a world of difference between Elijah then and Elijah now. And that's what the book is about. Elijah growing up and take control of his own life instead of allowing others to do it for him.
This isn't just Elijah's story. It is also the story of a nurse who goes out with him on a blind date, without knowing that he's the infamous Elijah Crowe. Lauren is a girl with a secret. And that secret makes her quite aware of the fishbowl life that Elijah leads, and of the money Elijah has. And the fact that she's not interested in either. She's interested in the man beneath all of the trappings.
This story is Elijah getting down to that guy without the trappings, all on his own. This story is also an explanation for some of the things we either read about or saw happening in the other Felony books. Elijah, being fueled by liquor, drugs, and rock n roll for so long, has to confess and atone before he can truly be free of that other life.
Again a 4-1/2 star book, or thereabouts. There were typos again, and I've come to expect them, but the editing was a little lax in this one too. Ms. Mann has the capability of writing a stellar book, she needs to find the correct people to have her back.
I found myself surprised by the content of this Bad Boy Rocker book and I loved it. I was glad in this rocker book it wasn't focused so much on his antics as his recovery and withdrawal from that world which was slowly killing him. Hi fight toward change is riddled with obstacles but the author treats us to a read which is well done and was a delight to read. The changes in both of the main characters and the dedication soothe this old heart and had me doing the deep sigh and awww's to the point of being repetitive. I enjoyed it completely. I haven't read this author before but she did make me fall for a guy who's a rocker. . . nuff said.
Elijah is struggling with the touring, the debauchery and the fast lane of living life as a rock star. Underneath the surface, he is a man looking for normalcy and something less soul-sucking. Lauren has lived life with notoriety and changed her identity to begin a new life totally separate from the one she had. Elijah and Lauren seem like an unlikely couple but have more in common than either one realizes. This was a story of growth, restitution and the beginnings of a great love affair between these two characters. Absolutely loved this story but if I may make one comment, it would be that an epilogue would have been great to have answered some of the questions we were left with.
I finished the book with mixed feelings. There is a happy end, but there are a bunch of unanswered questions. Why Elijah had his panic attack in the first place, what happened to Lauren when she returned to work. As detailed as the beginning as cursory was the end. All of a sudden Elijah was allowed to look after his daughter, suddenly he owns a record label when he only just was released from prison. The plot starts off with nice, unusual ideas and well -described scenes which peters out towards the end. Hence 2 house points off.
DISCLAIMER: I got this book for free as a winner of a giveaway promoted here on Goodreads by the author.
I confess I expected a lot less from this book, but the characters were more deep and the story less predictable than I imagined. It contains some really graphic sex scenes, that I don't mind but someone could dislike. It entertained me a lot, and I'm not used to read romantic books.
What a surprise! Chaos and redemption for both main characters. I would have liked a more protracted storyline. It ended just as I was getting into the plot.
I won "Drift: A Felony Romance Novel" in a GoodReads Giveaway and it was a fun read.
I don't often read romance novels but this was romance with a twist. Elijah, a rock star who has run away from his tour, goes on a blind date with a nurse. She expects it to be a one-night stand, which is fine with her. She is into her work and has her own secrets so does not want to let anyone get too close. (As warned, some semi-hot sex in the book) but of course they "fall in love". The story progresses from there and is an enjoyable read for anyone that likes romances that are not cookie-cutter. I was disappointed on the last page of what was a fine ending to find unnecessarily crude language thrown in. Thanks for the book Jeana, have passed it along for someone else to enjoy!
This was quite a different take on rock star burned out guy meets girl. Lots of twists and turns. Good character development - both characters felt very real. Both had their own struggles to overcome, but in the end, saw the best in one another. Very delightful!
