Fantasy football, Week 6: Who to start and sit among tight ends

We break down the top starting options at tight end this week, along with some players who should be avoided.

Week 6 of the fantasy football season is here, and we're back with another crop of start/sit options. We have a nice set of data about each team through five weeks, and can make informed decisions on good plays and traps. With that in mind, we'll pick quarterbacks who should exceed expectations in Week 6, along with three you should probably sit.

Start

Evan Engram, New York Giants at Denver Broncos

I admit to being a little nervous about this recommendation after his big fat zero last week, common sense dictates that Engram is going to be the target leader this week against a defense that has allowed production to tight ends and with a receiving corps plucked off the street this week. This is a PPR pick mostly, but Engram is probably the Giants’ best bet to score if they can find themselves in the red zone.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

Jenkins looks better by the week and Josh McCown, who has always loved throwing to his tight ends, is clearly locked in here. In the three weeks since his return from suspension, Jenkins leads the team in overall targets and red zone looks. The Patriots have given up decent production to the position, so the ASJ show should play for at least one more week.

Hunter Henry, Los Angeles Chargers at Oakland Raiders

After weeks of frustration and record-hunting for Antonio Gates, the Chargers got back to business by making Henry their main tight end against the Giants and Henry delivered with a touchdown on a season-high eight targets. The Raiders are much more fantasy-friendly to tight ends than the Giants, so Henry is a terrific play this week.

Sit

Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts

If Marcus Mariota is out again on Monday, Walker is unlikely to make much of an impact, despite a nice matchup against a Colts team that made 49ers rookie George Kittle look like Vernon Davis last week. Because we likely won’t know Mariota’s status, playing Walker is a risky move – unless you also have Jack Doyle on your roster and the ability to make a late swap.

Coby Fleener, New Orleans Saints vs. Detroit Lions

If Willie Snead finally makes his season debut, it’s worth reminding that Fleener’s Saints production has historically taken a huge hit when Snead is in the lineup. Even without Snead, Fleener has seen is productivity drop sharply the past two weeks. The show is apparently over here.

Jared Cook, Raiders vs. Chargers

Cook has really only had one good game in five weeks this season and the Chargers have yet to allow a tight end touchdown in 2017. Last week, even when Evan Engram became the only reliable receiving option, the Chargers still held him without a catch.
