Certified nurse midwife (CNM) services

Certified nurse midwives (CNMs) are advanced registered nurses, masters-trained and/or board-certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board. They are committed to respecting women's healthcare choices. Our midwives provide the following services:

  • Custom birth plans
  • Doula referrals
  • Facilitating father-assisted birth
  • Family planning, including contraceptive treatment
  • Guidance with breastfeeding
  • Management of your wellbeing during menopause
  • Well-woman exams

In addition to the services they provide, CNMs have immediate access to an exceptional team of medical specialists and can administer medication and perform certain procedures, such as vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC), in partnership with our physicians. CNMs partner with their OB/GYN colleagues to practice evidence-based medicine and maintain current knowledge about relevant research.

Benefits of midwife labor and delivery services

CNMs partner with their patients to tailor our services to their needs. Midwives can help arrange a low intervention birthing experience in a hospital setting for patients, and they can assist patients who want an epidural, nitrous oxide, unmedicated birth or alternative therapies for pain relief during labor.

Births attended by midwives are reported to have lower rates of C-sections and episiotomies. CNMs also provide education, encouragement and emotional and social support for patients and families through pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum experience, ensuring that individuals leave the hospital equipped to stay healthy moving forward.
