Op-Ed: Andy Summers’ ‘Triboluminescence’ — Best instrumental CD of 2017

A well-crafted solo album, Triboluminescence was released on March 24, 2017 on Flickering Shadow Productions. It ought to be enjoyed for its beauty, especially its hypnotic melodies. “If Anything” was a strong opener, and the title cut was rich and poetic, while “Adrinkra” was more jazzy and smooth. Other remarkable songs on there are “Elephant Bird,” and the complex “Haunted Dolls.” “Shadyland” has a retro vibe to it, and “Garden of the Sea” is atmospheric.

This project was equal in excellence to such previous solo albums by Summers as Mysterious Barricades from 1988, and The Golden Wire from 1989. It earned a rave review from Digital Journal, among other music critics, and rightfully so. Triboluminescence is a must for any fans of rock and roll.

Hopefully there will be more music from Andy Summers in the future, especially since he is one of the most consistent musicians of his generation. In 2003, Summers was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a band member of The Police, along with Sting and Stewart Copeland.

Triboluminescence is available on Amazon.
