Master Bedroom

I feel bad that I haven’t posted for a long time, but I also haven’t had a whole lot to post about either! But here are some updated pics of the past few weeks. Our master bedroom has basically been done for quite awhile and even though there are still things I want to add/change, here is what it looks like right now. First of all, here is a terrible picture of what it looked like when we bought it. Yucka.

And here it is now!DSC01125

This is at the top of the stairs looking down the hallway into the bedroom. Lots of pictures ahead…DSC01117DSC01124DSC01132

It’s hard to tell, but I love the texture on the headboard. It’s thick upholstery fabric and it has raised circles.

The dang drawer on my dresser doesn’t stay closed! Sometimes it closes and sometimes it doesn’t but this time it was uncooperative for my pictures! I would still like to get another dresser and paint it yellow but that is something I may do later. I also used chalkboard spray paint and an old frame to make the cute chalkboard sign on the left.

I had this wooden tray from our wedding and I used painter’s tape and spray paint to make a cute design and I use it to hold my jewelry and perfume.

I love love the stenciled wall! You may notice a tiny part by the left nightstand that looks weird and I still need to fix that…ugh.

DSC01128

I did a lot of projects in this room. Here is everything I did;

-painted the walls (Behr Porpoise and Behr Creek Bend for the accent wall)
-stenciled one wall using a homemade stencil and pearlescent craft paint
-recovered lampshades with muslin and ribbon
-made upholstered headboard with nailhead trim
-repainted nightstands and added new hardware
-added ribbon to bedskirt
-spray painted frames
-made the curtains with hemming tape
-made a framed chalkboard
-spray painted tray
-traced, cut out (with Dan’s help), and painted the letter H above the TV
-painted and reupholstered the chair

I hope you like it! We love it and I still have lots of big plans and I’ll post pictures of our master bath soon!

I didn't handmake my stencil, but I have basically the exact same pattern! (I haven't done it yet though...) Just wondering if you have any advice on how to apply it to the wall etc. I was just going to use a clear (polyurethane?) paint, but you have me rethinking by seeing yours...maybe I could stencil in the same color as our trim (so it would look similar to yours, but all our walls are grey instead of just the one). If you have any advise, I'd love to hear it! I really want to do it, I just don't know how long it'll take me!

Thanks so much everyone! It's hard to say how long it took me because I worked on it in the evenings after work but it probably took around 10-15 hours total. But it was worth it!

Hi there...Absolutely love your new bedroom. My favourite is the wall behind your bed. Thought it was wallpaper, but you made the stencil yourself??? Kudos! Wondering if you posted a how to tutorial? If not hoped you would share some tips, would love to know how you did this.

Your bedroom is beautiful, it really looks professionally done. What a great transformation! I saw it on Just a Girl's blog and was reading through what you did, and your headboard description and look caught my eye. I swear your headboard and fabric looks identical to the one I did for my daughter's master bedroom! I used dwell studio's white fabric. And I will say for the record I will never ever do upholstery tacks again.
But check it out, here

I would love to hear if our headboards are twins. (I have since added a starburst mirror above the bed, but don't take many pictures of the headboard because it makes me cringe every time I see it, way too much time and headache involved lol)

OPEN DRAWER: Superfast solution-blue tack

Fast solution- slightly raise front of dresser (with matchbooks or folded cardboard) dresser/dresser drawer may not be balanced, so it keeps opening)

Slow solution - Get a $1 magnet latch at box store.

Haley Hill said...

Thanks for the comment about the drawer, but the problem is not that it's falling open, but that the inside sliders are blocking it from closing sometimes for some reason. So it's actually stuck open, not falling open. The drawers are very sturdy and on wooden runners so I'm sure it's related to that, I just haven't done enough digging yet! Thanks though!

Haley, Was your stencil an individual one that you traced on or how did you get it so big? The ones I've seen have been smaller. Can you please put a picture of your stencil on here? please?

Haley said...

Seconding everyone's request to see how you made your stencil. Love it!

Great job!!! I love the headboard and am on the hunt as I am about to tackle my own. Did you use a tutorial for this? If so, do you mind sharing? Thanks!!

Gorgeous room...your bedroom is so much like ours-- in the sense of the large accent wall that goes up high on one side. Funny enough-- we made a headboard out of the same white upholstery fabric with raised circles that you did! Great minds think alike!! Nice work!!! You can visit my blog and see my headboard if you want :)

Thanks!

I am doing my living room and would love to know how you made this stencil-can you please post?

Haley Hill said...

Email me at haleybethhill@gmail.com and I will send you guys the stencil that I used. I originally got it from the Jones Design Co. blog then I modified it to be symmetrical and then traced it onto a posterboard to make a large stencil. The bedspread is from Bed, Bath and Beyond and the flower pillows are from Target. For the headboard, I bought the fabric from Joann's and followed the tutorial here to build it: http://www.hgtv.com/bedrooms/upholstered-headboard-with-nail-head-trim/index.html. I hope that helps!

this is just my style! I want to do my living room gray and yellow, love the combination, you are talented. I love how you painted the tray and the stenceling on the wall is so unique. I love it!

Sherrie said...

SO CUTE!! What are the approximate dimensions of the stencil you made?? I really like that scale. :)

I have been searching high and low for a comforter that color... can you tell me the brand of the comforter or where you got it?

This is so beautiful. It has inspired me to do our bedroom! I think I will stencil a wall as well. Love it.

CandiceDee said...

Hi Hayley!

I love your walls and was wondering if you could send me or just explain how you made the stencil for you wall??? please! =) i have tried to just do it by eye and it keeps coming out lopsided or just weird looking! LOL!

Michael said...

It looks great! You did an outstanding job. Now tell me where you got the headboard.

Anonymous said...

Can I ask where you purchased the wallpaper? We are creating a nursery for our soon to come baby girl, with Lavender, white & gray. The paper you show would be perfect!!!

Haley Hill said...

Thanks for all the nice comments once again everyone. I previously posted my email if you are interested in the stencil.
Crane Family-it is not wallpaper, it is a stencil that I made. Email me at haleybethhill(at)gmail(dot)com if you would like a copy of it.
Michael-I made the headboard and got the fabric from Joann's.
Donohoe's: The comforter is from Bed Bath and Beyond.
Sherrie: Each individual quatrefoil is approximately 14ish inches tall and about 12ish inches wide. That is a rough guess.

hayleymouse said...

I am visiting from the Thrifty Decor Chick party and LOVE your room, especially the wall! Very impressed that you made the stencil. Your room has similar colors and decor to my master bedroom-- and my name is Hayley Hill as well! Weird. I'll definitely be back to look at your blog more!

Everything looks great, but the carpet! Get some nice fluffy white carpet.

Also, some white wainscoting and crown molding would brighten up the room a bit.
