President Obama pauses as he delivers a statement, after a shooting at a community college in Oregon that left up to 10 people dead, in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House in Washington, DC on October 1, 2015. A 20-year-old gunman opened fire inside a classroom at Umpqua Community College in rural Roseburg, before being "neutralized" by police, authorities said. He was later confirmed dead.

WASHINGTON — President Obama will travel to Roseburg, Ore. on Friday to meet with the families of victims of the mass shooting at a community college there last week, White House officials said.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the schedule has not been finalized, said Obama would meet with the families privately.

Police say a 26-year-old student opened fire inside a classroom at Umpqua Community College last Thursday, killing eight classmates and an instructor before committing suicide during a gunfight with police.

This will be Obama's second trip to Roseburg, and his first as president. In 2008, he made an unscheduled campaign stop in the town of 21,000 people in southern Oregon.
