RAPAPORT... The Bharat Diamond Bourse has approved measures to stem sales of synthetic diamonds on the bourse premises, requiring that only "natural diamonds" be sold in the Mumbai facilities, Rapaport News has learned.

The action was approved by "an overwhelming majority" of members at the bourse's annual general meeting, market representative Shaji Narayanan confirmed in an email on October 1.

The new rule applies to all synthetics, including CVD. Specific details of the disciplinary action that could be taken against dealers were not provided. According to an emailed statement, the Bharat Bourse is the "first and only diamond bourse to declare its entire premises as a natural diamond zone."
