Animayo has become the first animation festival on a 100% virtual platform in its most technological and charitable edition yet and gives over 500,000€ in scholarships for face-to-face and online classes.
The fifteenth Animayo International Summit will be taking place from May up to the third quarter of 2020 in four settings: virtual, streaming, online and in-person.
Fifty seven international and national experts on animation, VFX and video games will be part of the program of the world’s first animation, VFX and video games festival held on a 100% virtual platform: the fifteenth Animayo Gran Canaria edition that celebrates its first programming weekend on May 9 and 10.

The speakers, and the jury, are stars of the industry, representing 14 countries with backgrounds in studios such as DreamWorks Animation, Cartoon Saloon, The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros, Pixar, Sony Pictures Animation, Ilion Animation Studios, Skydance, Weta Digital or Delirium Studios, among others, and who have left their mark on titles such as Games of Thrones, Klaus, Zootopia, Interstellar, Love, Deaths & Robots, Chernobyl, The Simpsons, the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, the trilogy of The Hobbit, Avengers Saga, Justice League Saga, Despicable Me, The Minions, Pirates of the Caribbean Saga, Hungers Games Saga, Star Wars: Resistance, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Tangled, Brave, Vaiana, Frozen, Break-it Ralph!, or in video games like League of Legend, Game of Thrones, Commandos, Crossfire, Project Cars, Need for Speed, Alice’s rivers and many more.

On 16 and 17 May, the streaming activities will be held with several master classes given by national and international speakers, portfolio reviews and talent scholarships for over 500,000 euros.

On May 22 and 23, online activities, with the selection of the international jury of the Official Contest Section. Animayo is the only Spanish animation festival designated a Qualifying Festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood for the Oscars® in the animation category for the past three years, is upholding all the work carried out over the year with the official sections of the contest leading to the Animayo 2020 Award, the jury’s prize of which will be considered by the Academy. With more than 1,600 works viewed for the international competition, the organisation’s international jury will receive links to download the films, which they will then watch and vote for via the online platform. The winners will be announced on 29 May and the films will be screened in the face-to-face phase of the festival, which will take place in the last quarter of this year. And finally, the face-to-face program in the last quarter of the year and will be announced soon. It will consist of screenings of official sections for the 2020 Animayo Gran Canaria contest (voting for the Audience Award), primary and secondary school screenings, video gaming and virtual reality space, premiere of short films made by children for children (Animayo educational system), official children’s section for the My First Festival contest, and U-future experiences.
