Skype down, a promised fix is on the way

Users of Skype are having issues logging in worldwide, and engineers are frantically working on a solution. [Update]

[Update 16.24 GMT: Skype says the problem has been resolved and users are now being reconnected.]

Microsoft's Skype video chat platform is experiencing issues this morning with users worldwide complaining of logging in and usage issues.

On Monday, Skype engineers said in a blog post they were aware of the issue, which is impacting users of the application in countries including the UK and Europe, as well as the US, Australia and New Zealand.

Users who are signed in are reporting that they cannot change their status, as well as contacts appearing offline even if they are available and online.

In addition, Skype calls are out of the window, and some group chat messages are not being delivered. If you are attempting to log in, you may not be able to -- or see any changes related to your account, including your Credit balance or profile details.

Skype says the company is doing everything it can to fix the issue and will have another update soon.

If you quickly need to conduct an Internet-based call while Skype is down, consider using Google Hangouts instead. Alternatively, some Skype users have enjoyed success through the Skype for Web application.

Update 16.24 GMT: In an update , Skype said:

We have identified the network issue which prevented users from logging in and using Skype today. We're in the process of reconnecting our users, and focused on restoring full service. The issue did not affect Skype for Business users.
