- NFL. Super Bowl 2023: What are the betting odds on the Chiefs vs Eagles final?
Super Bowl 57 takes place this Sunday at State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, and this time it will be an all-out offensive duel between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although the vast majority of bookmakers in Las Vegas give the Eagles a slim lead as favorites, it is curious to find out who wins in the booming world of collectible cards that move so much money, especially in the United States.
The Spanish Association of Sports Cards and Collectibles, ASOCARDS, has analyzed the market in terms of the Super Bowl in the following way.
"We have witnessed an exponential rise in the price of Jalen Hurts cards during this season after the great season that Philadelphia have had," ASOCARDS told MARCA.
The 'normal' value of Hurts
Based on data from a Jalen Hurts reference card, such as the Prizm Silver graded by PSA from the Panini 2020 collection of the Eagles quarterback's rookie season, we can see how it reached its lowest price days after Super Bowl 56, which ended the 2022 season.
At the time he was selling for $262, but at the time of writing his price stands at $1,050, which means he has quadrupled his price in just one year and could go even higher in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.
The value of Patrick Mahomes
On the other hand, there is Patrick Mahomes. The equivalent card of his rookie season, moves in another price range.
It reached an all-time high of $14,900 just before Super Bowl 55, in which Tom Brady defeated the Kansas City QB.
Taking as a reference the same period of time with the Hurts card and the Mahomes card, the latter has dropped from around $7,600 to $3,750, which is just more than a 50 percent drop.
Again, it is worth remembering that in this market there are rapid variations based on the performances of the players.
NFL record
If we look at the most expensive card sold so far, we see how the Chiefs quarterback sweeps his opposite number as one of his rookie season cards holds the all-time NFL record for the highest price, exceeding 4.3 million dollars.
The transfer took place in July 2021, and the card in question is the '2017 National Treasures Platinum #161 Patrick Mahomes II', which in addition to shield and autograph, is 1/1, meaning there is only one 'card' in the entire world like it.
By comparison, the most expensive Jalen Hurts card sold on record was for $38,100 in August 2022. It was the '2020 National Treasures Red Laundry Tag #161 Jalen Hurts'.
It is very possible that between now and the Super Bowl this maximum figure for the Eagles QB will be exceeded, but it is not expected to be anywhere near the price of Mahomes' most expensive card.
