NYFW SS16 Makeup Roundup

New York Fashion Week SS16 has come to a close and today, London Fashion Week SS16 begins. While the whole purpose of the shows are showcasing next season fashions, hair and makeup also play a big part in each runway look. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very natural, fresh-faced trend in the makeup looks created for every show so I decided to round up the week by showcasing my favourite natural makeup looks fresh off the catwalk and showing you how to create your own similar makeup look!

Makeup was kept very simple with the occasional pop of colour in the form of red lipsticks or colourful eyeliner / eyeshadow. The focus was on having healthy, glowing skin with natural lips, eyes and brows. My personal favourite makeup looks were the ones that contained no pop of colour, those that looked effortless and real. I think it's lovely to see the natural look embraced on the catwalks because the look isn't unattainable and celebrates natural beauty. I'm excited to see the look on the London Fashion Week catwalks over the next few days, and even more excited to see the look in action next Spring Summer! These are my top three natural makeup looks from NYFW.

3. TOMMY HILFIGER This look is effortless and youthful, it looks fun and the lack of makeup is shown where the model has a subtle blemish on her forehead which shows that barely and makeup was used and this wasn't even a no-makeup makeup look, closer to the model genuinely just wearing no makeup.

2. VICTORIA BECKHAM I love this look because the skin looks so dewy and the brows look full and groomed. Something about it just looks so polished and classy, though I expect nothing less from VB and her models. The makeup looks on the Ralph Lauren catwalks are very similar to this and just as beautiful.

1. PRABAL GURUNG This is definitely my favourite look of any I've seen from the NYFW catwalks. It's probably the most makeup heavy of my top three but still looks natural none the less. I love the subtle contouring used to define the cheekbones and the brows are lightly filled in to make sure there aren't any gaps. I love the idea of focusing the makeup only on the face and eyebrows but being light handed for a simple and effortless result.

Taking inspiration from the three catwalk makeup looks, I created my own 'au naturale'  makeup look. All of the products I used are pictured so it didn't take too much to create the look. I followed the idea of focusing on the eyebrows and face makeup to achieve this look.

I applied MAC Strobe Cream underneath all of my makeup before I started. I then used the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to apply my NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. Afterwards, I filled in my eyebrows using MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme with an eyebrow brush from the Real Techniques Starter Set. My eyebrows look much darker and harsher here because of the contrast with my blonde hair so next time I would use a lighter hand to apply it or use a light brown eyeshadow or powder for a more natural look. I then took my Zoeva 228 Luxe Crease Brush which had a small remainder of excess eyeshadow on it that I had used the day before, in the colour Snakebite from the Naked 2 Palette, and roughly ran that along my crease to give a very slight amount of colour that was barely noticeable. I then used some YSL Babydoll Mascara to make my eyes look more awake, but I only used one coat. To finish off my face makeup I used the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation on the Real Techniques Buffing Brush from the Core Collection to add a small amount of powder to my face to set the foundation. I used my Nars Laguna Bronzer on the Zoeva 109 Face Paint Brush to subtly contour my face and then I highlighted using the Benefit High Beam and the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle on the Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush (also from the Core Collection). To finish the look off, I kept my lips natural but gave them some moisture with the original Nivea Lip Butter.

So that's my round up and mini tutorial on the makeup from NYFW SS16!
