Shell has opened its first electric vehicle charging hub in the United Kingdom converted from a traditional service station, with one EV owner posting photos and a video claiming to be the first paying customer at the Fulham facility.
The Fulham charging hub in central London features high-powered 175kW ultra-rapid charging points, and a solar canopy, and has been proudly promoted by Brisbane-based Tritium’s head of sales Christian Hewitt in his LinkedIn account.
“Get ready to see the future of “petrol stations”,” he noted.
It’s unsurprising that Tritium is involved, given the existing relationship between the two companies – which was highlighted last week when Tritium won its second deal to supply Shell with fast chargers in the oil and gas major’s latest tender.
The Twitter account of EV Musings claimed to be the first customer, although it noted that there were only 9 charging spots rather than the advertised 10.
“This is the UK’s first fossil-fuel-to-EV-station upgrade where ALL the pumps and tanks from an existing station were removed and completely replaced with EV charging infrastructure,” he noted.
