Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team fell to the Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology 117-105 at home on Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Aaron Hill led the Patriots once again with a 28-point game, as well as coming down with 8 boards and collecting 2 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals. However, Penn College was able to capitalize on 34 fast-break points, and 27 second chance points, making it difficult for the Patriots to stay on pace.
"I thought we did a lot of good things in spurts, but the bottom line is they were much tougher than us," head coach
DJ Damazo shared. "Any time you score 105 points at home, it should not result in a double-digit loss. We will clean up the obvious weaknesses and get better from it for Thursday against Penn St. Lehigh Valley."
Steven Eng (18),
Bennie Howard Jr. (17), and
Owen Bradford (14) were able to keep the Patriots alive as they each dished out double-digits.
The contest began in favor of Penn as they scored a quick layup, the Wildcats would take advantage of the Patriot fouls, going 13-17 at the line. Valley Forge was able to cut the lead to a 7-point difference until the Wildcats would get hot, hitting a pair of free throws, a few jumpers, and a three-ball to end the first half with an 11-point benefit.
Trailing 56- 45, the Patriots were sparked by sophomore
Steven Eng, who hit back-to-back trey balls, closing the scoring gap to an 8-point difference. Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Patriots would get as the Wildcats secured 30 points in the paint during the second-half, as well as outrebounding the Patriots 70-44 . Ultimately, that would be the deciding factor as Penn College went on to win 117-105.
The Patriots will be back at home on Thursday, November 14
th at 7 p.m. to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State Lehigh Valley.
