Shocking video footage has emerged showing a drunk driver careening into a row of vehicles at a Johannesburg Volkswagen dealership in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The driver of the white Volkswagen Polo Cross was driving at a high speed along Beyers Naude Avenue when he lost control and ploughed into several vehicles parked outside the dealership in Northcliff.
The driver was arrested for negligence and reckless driving. He was released on bail later that day.
According to the JMPD's Lesiba Montja, an officer who was on the scene, the driver sustained minor injuries.
"Upon testing the driver, we found that his alcohol levels were over the limit," Montja told News24.
The incident happened around 02:00 in the morning, according to Hatfield Volkswagen Northcliff dealer principal Tebatso Manyama.
"We will be opening a case against the driver for damage to property and reckless driving," he said.
According to Manyama, the driver had apologised to the dealership on Tuesday.
"He came to apologise, and he looked like he was in pain, physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, 'sorry' won't cut it. Especially in 2018, where there’s Uber and Taxify if you are over the limit," Manyama said.
