Senior Wednesday: Conquistadors on the Plains

Wednesday, October 7, 2020 | 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Please join us in welcoming speaker Sandy Randel as she presents "Conquistadors on the Plains" for October's Senior Wednesday event!

Journey through the discovery of an ancient settlement of the Wichita tribe that resided on both sides of the Walnut River, near Arkansas City, from 1450 to 1750. The Conquistadors, who went on expeditions to discover the new world, came upon the settlement in 1601. A map drawn by one of the captives in 1601 holds the key to discovering the location of the lost city.

Sandy Randel serves as the director of the Etzanoa project in addition to the director of the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum in Arkansas City. She graduated in 2007 from Southwestern College and has been working on the Etzanoa project since its inception in 2013.
