Description

Music on Film: Showcasing inspiring music docs from around the world and special guest speakers selected by The Royal Conservatory of Music.

A comprehensive and dynamic account of the life and works of one of the greatest composers of all time, In Search of Beethoven brings together prominent musicians and historians from around the globe to reveal new insights about the man and his music. Director Phil Grabsky (In Search of Mozart) travels across Europe and North America interviewing world-class artists between rehearsals and concerts, capturing their raw energy and passion for Beethoven’s works. Highlights include exclusive footage of Claudio Abbado’s critically-acclaimed performance of Beethoven’s opera Fidelio, The Endellion String Quartet performing Beethoven’s quartets, as well as performances by Frans Brüggen’s Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Salzburg Camerata with Sir Roger Norrington, Leipzig Gewandhaus with Riccardo Chailly and many more.

Includes a post-screening Q&A with Barry Shiffman, Associate Dean, The Glenn Gould School and Director, The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists, with a string quartet performance by students from The Glenn Gould School. Q&A moderated by Mervon Mehta, The Royal Conservatory of Music's Executive Director of Performing Arts.
