EXCLUSIVE: 'I believe it was their choice': Jillian Michaels opens up on her departure from The Biggest Loser

It was commonly believed that she chose to quit The Biggest Loser for the third time earlier this year but Jillian Michaels has now revealed this wasn't exactly the case.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, the 40-year-old fitness guru admitted she asked show bosses to make some changes in order to keep her but they instead chose to 'part ways'.

She said:  'I asked for changes and they said no, so in my opinion I believe it was their choice. I was willing to stay if certain changes were made and they said no.'

And Jillian - who first left the show in 2006 and again in 2011 - admitted this isn't the first time she has disagreed with producers.

The outspoken trainer said: 'Unfortunately, over the years we've had many differences in opinion on how I thought things should be and producers thought things should be and I didn't quit.

'I went to them and said I'd like to see these changes and they said no so I did not quit they basically said no we're not interested in changing x, y and z, so we will part ways.

'In all fairness it was their show, so I said if we can't do this, this and this, I'd like to be released and they said you're released.'

While she wouldn't elaborate on the changes she wanted, one of the factors believed to have contributed to Jillian's departure was her horror over the extreme weight loss of a whopping 155lbs by last season's winner Rachel Frederickson.

She told MailOnline she was 'ashamed' to be part of the process even though she did not personally train the 24-year-old voice-over artist.

'I thought she lost too much weight without a doubt,' Jillian said.

'She came in at 105 pounds and I would like to have seen her come in at 135 pounds so weighing around two stone more than she was.'

She added: 'You go to this place where you are like I didn't know, I'm not a producer, I wasn't her trainer and then I had to stop and think regardless, I was benefiting from being on that platform as a professional and I'd been the face of the show.

'But then you've got to take responsibility for it good and bad and I felt actually pretty ashamed. I got to a place where I thought if I'm going to be the face of something, I've come to a point in my career where I have to have control and that's where I'm out.'

A representative for Jillian told MailOnline: 'Collectively, the network and Jillian decided to mutually part ways.'

Jillian has two children son Phoenix, two and daughter Lukensia, four, with her partner Heidi Rhoades and says they contributed to her departure too as she was worried about how she was being portrayed on the show would affect her kids.

Speaking exclusively to Mail Online, she said: 'I have kids and a persona has no longer become advantageous.

'And when you are constantly perpetuated as screaming and yelling when you are not even screaming and yelling - I have children and I'm trying to help people and there comes a time where it just starts to become counterintuitive.'
